hi all, i purchased my 06 g.s.a. last sat & rode home slowly via the motorway.today being my first chance to take it out to play .all's good except the bad vibes when braking . any ideas?.i've had a search & found nothing conclucive, tho i seem to think the seller told me it had green slime in the front tyre, mmmmm methinks.all looks good with the front end tho i've never had this type of suspension before .will ring the seller this evening to see what he thinks , after all he's done 17000 touring miles on it.thanks barry.

If it only vibrates (do you mean like a shudder?) when you brake, it's unlikely that the wheel is out of balance. Do a seach on warped disks, I think you'll find quite a few posts and it would explain your symptoms. However, I have in the past had a judder (only when braking) which eventually went away by itself. Can't explain how but it was probably related to the tyre in some way. Maybe there's so much slime in there it trys to shift forward under braking and puts the whole deal out of balance?

Front discs need replacing.
It should get do on warranty if it is still covered.

Are you sure the judder is coming via the front end??

If your Adv has ABS it may just be the system cutting in, I found this a bit strange at first too, but you feel it through the rear brake lever.

I would check this out befor changing discs.

yes it's the first time ABS for me on a bike . it comes in quite hard (V.HARD @ normal bracking)
plus i turned off the A.B.S. & it still happend .rang the seller & service guy (to no avail) so i don't know where to go from here.p.s. diver dan , it's the front.getting nothing strange @ the rear . thanks barry.

you could try cleaning the discs with brake cleaner.

Had a similar problem with my 06 GSA . After about 12,000 miles vibes started to appear under braking until the bike felt like it was going to shake itself to bits. Dealer (SLM) eventually came up with hard patches within the disc leading to uneven wear and hence the brake judder . It was not distorted discs as some people thought . The discs were changed under warranty and I had no more problems in the next 30,000 miles when I sold the bike . At the 600 mile service on my 08 GSA , the SLM service technician detected a slight judder that I hadn't noticed and found a high spot on one of the discs and so they were both replaced under warranty at the 6,000 mile service a couple of weeks ago . By that time I could sure feel the problem as the brakes became really 'grabby' at lower speeds . Bedded the new discs and pads in during PJ1200's '3 counties,3 stop coffee run' on 1st June and the brakes are now spot on .

discs ok, the last owner thinks cleaning is the differance so i'm now going to clean the discs to see if he contaminated them with auto glym motor cycle cleaner .some how i think not.

still the same. i took it to pidcocks long eaton today they put it on the rolling road & 3 of them road it (in there car park), then they said all's good.taking it back to them tomorrow so the service manager can do a proper road test.i think they are being more than fair as they've never seen this bike before.

I've always used Auto-glym bike cleaner on all my bikes and never had a problem . Vibration has got to be down to something loose , out of balance , out of true or worn .
