Baden Baden

I think so, I know the Spa's stay open and I would guess other shops would follow German Sunday trading laws (if there is such a thing)

Train schedules may be limited, I enquired with my regular Black Forest Hotel about stopping on a Sunday and they told me the Trains may be running a more limited schedule but did not mention nothing being open.

Probably didn't mention it because shops closing on Sunday in Germany is normal!

As others mentioned, shops are closed on Sundays. Cafes and restaurants are open, as are the spas etc., but that's your lot!

So, what you are saying is that apart from having coffee, cakes, ice cream, beer, sausages, schnitzel & schnapps or letching at naked people there isn't much to do?

Ideal time to go if your with your Mrs.

There were a lot of the sorts of shops where the prices are not shown in the display Window, which I always take to mean I cannot afford them, so no point going in to ask, your Mrs on the other hand may wish to enquire :blast

Be a damn shame to get there and have to tell her all you can do is get naked in the Spa and then go down the pub :D

I like your thinking ;)

We went there this year.
We sat outside a bar and they started giving out blankets when it got chilly:confused:
Managed to have a chat with one of the locals:D

Nice town we stayed opposite the opera house.

Is it business as usual on Sundays?

Depends upon when you intend going. In Germany we have what is known as Verkaufsoffenen Sonntage or, in your words, Sundays when the shops are open for a limited period. Unfortunately, Baden had the last one in November (there are usually two a year) and the 2013 dates haven't been published yet.

It might be in your interest to bookmark the following link which lists Sunday shop openings in Baden-Württemberg http://www.verkaufsoffenesonntage.org/verkaufsoffener-sonntag/baden-wuerttemberg.html . Clicking on the links to the right gives shop openings for the other German states.

That's not exactly true - I forgot to say that petrol stations are also open on Sundays (but not the car washes - you're not allowed to wash your car here on Sundays) :thumb
