Baehr Seat

Has anyone got a Baehr seat on their 1200 Adventure? If so, is it any good,ie,comfortable on long journeys? What's the build quality like?

I gather that these seats are made in Germany. Thats why I ask if it's a comfortable seat,'cause the Germans don't seem to know what a comfortable seat is!

Any info much appreciated.

i have the riders and pillions on my 1200gs they are comfy but i dont think they are made in germany the dealer for them in my area is in dalkeith bmw shop hope this helps you out

Motorrad Concepts, Dalkeith are UK distributors for Baehr. Stumpy of this parish has a Baehr seat fitted to his 1200. I know that he rates it very highly

Edit: Had a quick look on their website. Dunno if they do a 1200GSA seat. Why not give them a call and speak to Chris AKA Dutchman (also of this parish) or Stumpy

Just to confirm as Ronno said

Motoradd Concepts are the UK Baehr importers.

The seats use the standard BMW based and are recovered, higher density foam and the heating elemet added.

Yes adventure seats are availible.

I personally find the seat a huge improvement over the standard 12 seat. However I work part time for the company so I would say that .

I'm sure some "proper" customers will be along and able to give an independant view.

Does the new seat stop you sliding forward? that is my biggest complaint over long distances with the standard seat, always feel as if I am being cut in two where you don't want to be!

I see you're in Glasgow if you want to pop across and try my seat on your bike for a few miles you're welcome. I will be around Livingston all next week. I don't have any problem with sliding forward but come and try it as seats are a very personal thing

I have a heated one on my 1200GS. More comfortable then then original seat but that,s not saying much
I would guess there are more comfortable seat on the market but seats are a very subjective thing: what suits one person won't suit another. Ronno has posted the link. You have to send your seat to Motorad concepts and they send it to Germany to be recovered in the Baehr style. Couple of weeks turnaround depending on how busy they are I believe.

I already knew that Motorrad Concepts were the agents for Baehr,in fact,I emailed Chris asking his opinion.His reply was to " ask on the various GS forums"!

No mention of the fact that the seat is,in fact,a modified stock GS seat,either in his reply,or, on their website!

Mmmmmmmm!!!

Just got Baehrs for my '07 Adventure and must say they are an improvement for better! The seat "tilt" forward as in original saddle is gone so no more sliding forward. Foam seems denser and more supporting giving a firm feel (I prefer harder seats than softer ones so this suits fine). Build quality seems to be good. More info later after a few 1000 km if needed! Ah yes; these are actually built as "normal" 1200GS seats instead of Adventure seats; wanted a bit lower seat height (both 1200GS and 1200GSA seats available in all black as mine or black / grey).

I guess they can be called "modified stock GS seats" because they use the original seat pans, but the foam is renewed with multi-density one and the shape / cover is completely new.

I notice that you have Micatech panniers. I do to. Black,same as yours. The best GS panniers ever made,don't you think. So much better than those un-painted biscuit tins that one usually sees on a GS!

Yes, a hard-tail Panhead H-D might do the trick!

To keep this in topic, I bought the set from UK's Baehr importer, Motorrad Concepts, this winter. Very functional cases though maybe even a bit too big (everything being larger than life in America, I guess)... Mounting system is very clever and functional (except unmounting them you need to unscrew three screws from inside the cases). O.t.o.h. I have them mounted only when touring so no problema. Going to Tunisia this summer with missus so probably that extra space is not gonna be any problem at all.

And in case anyone is wondering the huge rear rack is from US company BestRest.

Picked up my baehr seats on friday morning

At dalkieth and now having done nearly 500 miles over the weekend I have to say they are a great improvement over the stock seats.

Don't slide about as much either, and they look trick.

I've only had my GS since February & I've noticed that too.
Does it make any differance if you set the front on the high setting & the rear on the low setting?

I set my seat to high position at the front and low at the rear - It makes a difference in that it stops you sliding forwards as much but you still get a sore arse after a couple of hours. the BM manual says not to do this but I can't see any reason why not.
