Has anyone fitted Givi baggage to their 1200GS?. I thought the aluminium and BMW ones look a bit square but OK but after seeing the ones fitted to a 1200GS in Hein Gericke's cattledog Page 206 I thought quite nice and the little Sheila likes them as well. I read that a couple of GS'ers have lost the BM top box. Wondered if these (Givi) are better

i've gone for a combination if that helps? BMW panniers with a Givi E52 top box....

Yeah you're right about the BMW top box, seems to be many reports of it falling off, and i believe it's now being re-designed, though i don't know the details.

Haven't picked up my new (fast red/grey/black) bike yet... will be next couple of weeks, but if you're interested i'll let you know how the combination works then!

I went for Givi top box as it would accept two full face lids, the bm one does not.

Ive had Givi kit before an found it to be excellent, as is thier aftersales back up.

In addtion the Givi mounting kit for the top box does not require you to take a hack saw to the rear end of the bike like the bm mounting kit does. The supports are cranked around the body work.

I would add however that the Givi painted boxes are probably not the best thing to take off road, if you drop the bike the box will scratch.

Panniers

I am thinking of getting a 1200GS and would like to use my givi E360 (40 litre) panniers as they are less than 1 year old. I know you can fit them (Hein Gericke) but don't know how much wider they make the bike compared to the BMW panniers (extended of course). Has any one got any measurments/photos that might clear this up? How does it miss the silenser?

Many thanks.

Dave

Swebb keep me posted I was looking at the givi top box for the 2 skid lids as well maybe a combo is the answer I was wondering how easy it is to remove the top box as well even if it has the dunny seat look.

Removing the box is a piece of piss, turn key 90 degrees to right, press red button and pull the box backwards, its as easy as that, the maxi 52 ltr takes two full face or flip top helmets comfortably and i find my 1200gs stable riding at high speeds fully laden, i also use the BMW panniers with the givi box, together the luggage takes quite a load, if you want pics pm me with an email addy and i'll post you pics, theyre big images so hopefully you'll be broadband, if not tell me andi'll send just the one or two.

Top boxes

Hi All

I had a Hepco & Becker top box on my R1150R. Really pleased with it and it took 2 full face lids no problem.

When it's not on the bike the mount is very similar to a sports rack. I'm thinking of one for my 1200GS if I cant fit my lid in the BWM box.

Cheers

Pete
