The rubber boot has split on the front ball joint. It happened last week and it now has some amalgamting tape round it so no dust or water has got into the joint.

Has anyone found a replace gaiter? I replaced the whole ball joint 5 years ago when the last gaitor split and I do not want to go through that process again.

I think the top is 29mm diameter, the bottom 34mm diameter and the uncompressed height looks around 25mm. I have had a look at some replacement boots but the joint is an odd size.

Has anyone found a boot that fits?

thanks

Changed mine a month ago. Make a search on eBay.com. There is this guy in Greece named Evgenios sells them for 25 euro plus shipping. Fits like a glove but don't know how long it would last did seem like good quality though. Only difficulty is putting the lower clip back on.

I tried, a year ago. using Google to match the part number on the gaiter after mine split. It looks like it also goes over the end of a few steering racks but other than that I found nothing. I bought a good used balljoint from Motorworks and took the gaiter off it to replace mine. I used a cable tie rather than the original retaining clip at the bottom and a year later it's still fine.
Replacing the gaiter is a morning's entertainment. With a collection on wood blocks under the sumpguard I did it by unbolting the front shock absorber lower mount to give the wishbone a little more upward movement after taking the top nut off the balljoint (loctited in, use lots of heat, a big spanner and a 4lb persuader). then managed to wriggle the new gaiter in.

chester exhaust supplies supply individual or kits of rubber boots to suit varied sizes of track rod ends etc.
