Hi all,

I'm looking at putting some bar risers on my R1150GS (non-servo ABS). Wunderlich's site says that I will most likely need a longer brake line from the handlebar, which they also sell (stainless braided it seems).

I've read up on the bleeding process on here, seems standard procedure.

How hard is it to replace the line though? I'm imagining a simple 5 minute job, or am I mistaken?

Thanks,
Awfers

Mine had 35mm risers on without anything else being changed when I got it.
Would suggest gently trying risers first and go from there. I think many have managed without extending cable etc.

a widny bother for risers only for ape hangers :thumb

Or people a little taller than an Oompah Loompah :P

Bar risers aren't just for arm height....they straighten the back, move the weight on your coccyx and sort out a load of ergonomic problems.

FWIW, I didn't have to change my brake lines when i put in risers on my ADV, but I fitted some to a standard GS this week and had to angle the bars a bit forwards to allow enough slack in the brake lines when the bike was up on the centre stand.......on the side stand or in use, the lines were fine, but I really didn't like the look of the tension in the line when it was popped up on the CS.

Try it and see, use a bit of common sense and you'll be fine :thumb

Thanks guys, will put them on and take a photo... I don't know what a stressed brake line looks like...

Cheers,

Now photos with bar risers installed

Hi All,

Ok, here are the photos of the brake line where it connects to the grip, after I installed the 3cm risers, this is on the centre stand.. To me it looks a bit stressed. Can anyone say if it needs to be lengthened or not?

Thanks,
Awfers

difficult to tell from your pics but when on the main stand the forks aint compressed so could be a bit tight, can you not move the line at all, that will tell you if its stressed, and if your not happy then change it

Not sure on the 1150 but I have Rox risers on my 1200 and was able to route everything by dropping one of the forks. Aside from the Givi Airflow mod this was the best mod I did to the bike as I have a terrible pain between my shoulders from reaching for the bars being only 5'8.

I can move it, but it seems a bit "distended" and doesn't move easily (as when it's off the centre stand).

Think I'll go ahead and order the Wünderlich parts.

Thanks ShapeShifter & All.

to see if the line is stressed
put the bike on the side stand so theres a bit weight on the suspension,
loosen the handlebar clamps and mark or note the position of the bars,
keeping the clamps loose now put the bike on the centre stand, trying your best not to use the bars to get it onto the stand,
once on the centre stand see if the bars have moved,
if they have then the lines are stressed and have dragged the handlebars out of position

if you need longer lines you'll probably get them cheaper from somebody like goodridge/ HEL rather than paying Wunderlich the premium

Also make sure you move the bars lock to lock (in neutral!) to make sure that the throttle cable is not stressed causing the engine to rev. You would get a nasty surprise making a u-turn or going into a corner.
