Hi Bob
Best halfhour ive had on this site for a long time. Clicked on succesfully to all these yummy pics you have been taking & got them all saved in my picture folder. Brilliant stuff.

OK, since we're looking at photos made by Spanish Bob, how about some OF him (taken today):

Thats me! OK I´ll throw in some fotos different to the ones Mike has shown.

The day started with a hangover followed by a breakfast with Mike and Jaques.

Out in the furthest reaches of the carpark, one French team was busy putting the final 12,000 stickers on their bikes.

A quad (well somebody has to ride them dont they)

13429197-M.jpg

Its amazing how many time the body work came off these bikes. Lots of last minute adjustments, maybe some failures too?

Heres our very own Mike Werner, blogger extraordinaire, capturing all for posterity:

13429203-M.jpg

Odd one this, small American buggy next to a row of enormous Russian Kamaz trucks.

13429206-M.jpg

Arty shot. The weather just gets better and better. Most of the day between 12-15ºc.

13429210-M.jpg

Andy Caldicott, KTM Australia. This guy seems to always be smiling and he reflects very well also, which is nice.

13429213-M.jpg

Just to return the favour - here we have Mike and Jaques, helping to fly the almost non existent BMW flag.

13429214-M.jpg

Today this is about as close as I got to Nani Roma! Such a shame that he went over to the dark side!

13429215-M.jpg

Everything was quiet until the Repsol Mitsubishi team arrived. Lots of cameras.

13429217-M.jpg

Nani Roma is wearing the red shirt with a hat.

13429219-M.jpg

...uh, that doesn´t help too much -he´s leaning on his car #320.

This years only sidecar entrant in the Parc Fermé. Lets hope he becomes the first ever to finish!

13429221-M.jpg

Oh la la - still the best car in the competition.

13429224-M.jpg

Here´s your man again iin the park fermé, so he passed the scrutineers eventually. Hes a man with a sense of humour. :nod

13429232-M.jpg

13429235-M.jpg

The parc fermé is quite impressive - lots of vehicles. You really start to get a sense of how big the Dakar is and the operations that go on behind the scenes.

13429238-M.jpg

There were a couple of blue BMWs there a French guy told me they belonged to a couple of Gendarmes. He´dprobably just been hitting the Pernod, who knows?

13429243-M.jpg

The two BMWs I most wanted to see weren´t there:

13429250-M.jpg

Simon Pavey (102) and Nick Plumb (103) had a few hours left at the stage. As I type this there are 20 mins remaining. Might pop down in a mo to make sure that they made it!

#99 belongs to Clive Town (UK) and #100 to Patsy Quick British womens enduro champion, who ruptured a spleen in a previous Dakar and was lucky enough to find a military field hospital nearby.

and the last one for today. Sense titol...

The prologue starts tommorrow...

off out for dinner now with Tiff, Mike (plus Trish and Jaques) and anyone else who turns up, maybe even Clive and Gotterdamerung.

Excellent pics and write up Bob, as you say we'll have to meet up for a drink some time  :D , though obviously not whilst I'm in my truck...........................After all you know what these Belgian truckers are like :D !

There was a truck entered by them last year. If they win it'll be by running with the blues and twos on and making everyone pull over :D

Thanks a bunch Mike!! Great shots!! Good avatar!!:beerjug: Happy New Year!!!!!!:hapybnce:

Hi there yesterday we a pretty poor day for me in terms of fotos. The sun was too strong my fotos are all pretty much pants. might post one or two later, Today started almost as bad, I charged the batteries for my camera, macine said they were charged. THEY WERE NOT!!!!

I waited a while then went looking ofr batteries.

I did finally get to talk to Bobbie #151-the only Canadian Privateer. A bit difficult to chat with 13 Katoomers idling, but I think I managed to give him a message from the Ontario Dual Sport Club. Anyway he seemed to be in really good form and was very energetic and he was riding up to the start with @#118 Kevin Heath. All the bikers got a good send off with lots of back slapping etc. Very reminiscent of the TOur de France.

I have lunch for 20 with my wifes family here at home. I have to go now. more fotos here:

Bon any!
¡Prospero año nuevo!
Happy new year!

Bob, Mike and all, great stuff. Really enjoyed an hours peruusal of these superb snaps.
Have a great time and a safe ride back home.

The Plumb & Pavey show

The Dakar was just stunning. It only confirms that bikers are the friendliest species on earth. You could speak to anyone and they'd welcome the chat. Well worthwhile.

Lovely foties Phil - are you following them in Africa as well? Send more if you can.

I've just come off the 'phone to Jim & Roy (Jim650 / Blue Sweeper) in Morocco.

The bike stage got cancelled today due to fog, so they've been about 1km from the end of the special stage, watching the trucks & cars go by.

Bastards :D

Cancelled due to fog?????????

Is it just me or does this seem like a silly reason to cancel a stage?
