Had the outlast on today for the 4 1/2 hrs up to Northumberland.
Rukka ones from sportsbikeshop in the sale.
Perfect. Warm. Very comfy. Thin.
Sun was out but it was bloody chilly.
Fantastic views from the top of the Hartside.
I was spot on
The wife moaned she was cold even with her heated seat on.
Never bloody happy!

for convenience, I favour the synthetic Isocool T shirts from Mountain Warehouse. A tenner each. I only need 3 for any length trip. I rinse them out in hotel soap and they dry overnight. I wear a clean one in the evening and on the bike the following day. One drying out overnight and a spare.
For base layer leggings, I prefer the thinner variety of merino. Just cheap ones from Lidl/Aldi/Blacks/Mountain Warehouse.
Ha, I just bought some of those Isocool T-shirts from MW earlier today off your suggestion. I should have had a look at their Mernio range!

Which one did you go for? The v-neck or one with the collar? Long or short sleeve?Recently purchased the zero fit ice set, really pleased with the product and it seems to work. Haven't had the kit long enough to see if it lasts, but having read up, you just need to follow the washing and care instructions and cross your fingers
I ended up getting the Mountain Warehouse Merino one, £55 for shirt + pants.
I went for the collar one, had that on my other base layers. Quite like having it around the neck, so I can leave my buff off if it suits.
I went for long sleeve, although I have been looking at short sleeve. One of the reasons I have always wore base layers is to help with shear against the outer garment if you come off and slide, a second layer helps with rubbinh against the skin and outer garment.

I use a compression top year round, Makes getting sweaty leathers off easier and wicks moisture away from skin. £14 from decathalon.
In winter I have both merino wool and outlast tops. Not much to choose between them. If bitterly cold, they go over the compression top, and a heated vest over the whole lot.

Same here - wear base layers of some description all year round. Feels a bit weird putting compression top and leggings on in 30C heat, but your bike gear slides on and off so easy and you're not sweating buckets into your T Shirt at lunch. The merino ones feel a tad warm in this heat so still wearing my 10 year old Pro Skins
I have quite a few sets of Pro Skins, but think the Zerofit ice stuff is a step up, the kit feels cool when you pick it up. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, the Pro Skins have lasted pretty well though.
Ah so Merino will be better suited to the winter? Maybe I'll grab the Zero Skin Ice skin now then.
@casbar did you have to go a size up on the Zerofit?
Just soaking your compression top in water keeps you cool for quite a while before putting it on in hot weather
Nope, just went for a large, I'm 5ft 8, 34 - 36 waist and about a 44 chest. They are meant to fit snuggly.
I have marino wool for winter, but too warm for summer, the technical fabrics do a better job (IMHO). Winter, I still wear pro skins or helly hanson marino, if really cold, I have a Gerbing heated jacket as well. Pro Skins are not warm enough for winter use on their own.
Not a fan of the Zerofit winter kit, don't like the lining, if I was replacing my Helly Hanson's, I would probably go icebreaker or equivalent.
Few people have recommended Icebreaker for winter gear plus a Keiss heated jacket or similar.

Just a top spot the ice skin - if you’re of more generous proportions don’t buy white! Makes me look like a sleeping bag put into its stuff sack!
We’ve used ours a few times now and they really make a big difference, certainly up to 31C last weekend. They feel cool, but if there’s even a slight breeze it’s really noticeable.
I went for V neck as I hated the high collar version. The long sleeves were certainly beneficial. The leggings are great too - no more having to peel off the jeans
