Basecamp - So what if it’s no longer supported?

Ha! I made up the example, as I had no idea there is a new motorway around Rotterdam.

It has though made my point exactly. I had no idea the new road was there and, had I not updated a GPS device’s maps, it wouldn’t know about it either.

New road updates; who needs ‘em? Roads don’t change! I read it here.
Perhaps learning to read better would help. The quote was roads don’t move. Which they don’t really. The latest Garmin map update (which doesn’t exist, I read it here) does show the new Rotterdam East motorway. It is also showing on my old Zumo 660 which cannot be updated either.

Roads move (change, call it whatever) a lot around here. Whole new ones arrive and old ones go. Entire villages and small towns appear. But that’s the vibrant south, not the barren north, bereft of funding, despite umpteen promises.

PS I have no idea if Rotterdam has a new motorway or not, or if it’s been there for years.

There's a fair sized road appeared not far behind our house in the last year or so.

On reflection, that's probably not helping the argument as I use it regularly and don't need a Garmin to find it

That’s interesting, as some bods here moan that their device doesn’t direct them to the nearest petrol station to their house 🤣

I took a wrong turning at a roundabout this weekend which didn’t appear on my freshly updated Garmin maps. I had to go down a whole new road.

The new small section of motorway to the west of Rotterdam is the A24. It goes under the river via tunnels and links to the A20 which then heads east into Germany eventually. For all the cargo traffic arriving at Port of Rotterdam but bound for Germany

Indeed it does.

It was Garmin’s glitch / bug in a map update at the time which caused some devices (not all) to load only the northern section of Europe. I recall Nutty (amongst others) falling foul of it and calling me in some distress in the hope of me mending it remotely. He was sadly disappointed.
Distress ?
Buy a paper map at a fuel station - write road numbers and destinations on a scrunched up serviette
Worked for travellers for decades - ask Steptoe

It was Nutty, we were talking about.

How’s that XT of yours?
