Bash plate rubber spacer confusion....

I am confused as where the rubber spacers go. I am sure when the bike was new the went like this..

Nut-washer-Outer bash plate-Rubber spacer-Inner bash plate-sump.

On changing the oil today (first time DIY due to warranty expired) I noticed they are now in this order..

Nut-Washer-Outer bash-Inner bash-Rubber spacer-Sump.

From the workshop manual it looks as if the second way is correct.

But on the parts fiche it seems the other way round.


Which is correct? Does it matter?

Finglonger - mine was off yesterday as well - it conforms to your second picture. My old GS did as well IIRC.
