Basic GSA

ive said this before somewhere else but,why does everyone assume the 1200 wont continue when the 1250 comes out.the new model will prob command a premium price so why not run both for a while?

It wouldn't make sense to continue with the 1200 when they bring out the 1250, which is the replacement model. Why would they keep an older 'out-dated' model running? Sure they'll be old stock to clear, but once that's gone I can't see them making any more 1200 GS's. They may keep the 1200GSA going for a while until a 1250GSA comes along (which is typically a year or two after the GS) but once the 1250GSA is launched the 1200GSA will be redundant and cease to be made imo.
I've never known any bike or car that has kept an old model running when a new one comes out :nenau

Just thought I'd give you an update,I decided to for a gs triple black instead of GSA as stated earlier less weight and don't need big tank, i had to have a test ride on the mulistrada as i have a ducati already and found it an amazing bike so much power and light and nimble the clocks were smart and i thought i will have this instead of the GS, then driving home from the test ride im thinking i wasnt as comfortable as the gs the finish on the gs was better and do i really want to tear around like a lunatic anymore, money wise the gs is slightley better value as they are doing the £1000 contribution and i got a set of varios thrown in, my only reservation is the value after three years because of the change of model ( engine) next year will i get stuffed when i go to px next time? The multistrada only been out two years so wont change except the odd tweak, also when I popped into the BMW dealers I saw the gs rallye there in the flesh and it looks so much better than the pictures that I changed my mind from the triple black, just your thought on the current gs residuals when the water cooled comes out.

I'm fairly certain you'll lose more on a new multistrada 3 years from now than you will on an 1200 even if they bring a new model out at the end of the year.

Life is too short are you really happy to miss a summer of riding cos you're worried about depreciation :nenau. How much fun is it going to be running your new bike in through the autumn and winter months ?

Get the rallye and stand out from the crowd :thumb

no i dont think the older ones did really tbh,but i sense a big price ticket on the 1250,plus on the new model is there room for an adv size tank?looks like the rads will have that space:nenau

Quite often new models (not just updated ones) are more expensive than the model they've replaced, usually to cover some new fangled technology, but what makes you think the 1250 is going to hike up so much? I think it will be slightly more than the outgoing model, but not massively. BMW will have to price it pretty keenly as there's so much competition these days in this market. But that's just my opinion, there's no foundation for it really :nenau:

of course snerkler i may be talking bollox but then you have just said why would they keep it going and then said it might take 2 years for the gsa to arrive,so in effect the two models would run side by side would they not?:D

It's all guess work at the end of the day, but I believe the 1150GSA ran for a year after the 1150 GS ceased and the 1200GS introduced.
If they do indeed do the same again they still won't be running two models side by side though as the GS and GSA are 2 different models :blast;)

two different models only just, although your right its all just notions now, personally i will be miffed if the new adv hasnt got the same size tank as the old one.perhaps in sept this year we can look back at this and you can say told you so.

good for you enjoy, dont worry what everone says about the colour scheme:D

White is the ORIGINAL GS colour - good choice :thumb

Not sure about that red frame mind :hide

Who knows, and it doesn't matter. Just good fun speculating, I bet companies love all the speculation over their products.
As for the tank size I'm sure it'll be something BMW consider IF they do indeed do an adventure version. You never know, they could do something radical like do only one GS model somewhere between the GS and GSA. There's some hints of this from the image they're trying to portray on their not so secret test bikes :nenau

If it is sept I would wait, it must be close because BMW are doing all these ltd editions and incentives to buy current models.

Maybe, but maybe it's also because of all the talk of the 1250 BMW might be worried that people are going to hang on until then and so they're doing all these special editions so that they don't lose out on 12 months or so of sales :nenau

Cant think of many examples but Bikes wise cbr600f and cbr600rr, cb1000 variants, car wise renault have done it clio and the old model then became the clio campus, models like the 206 kept running for a while when the 207 came out. Im sure some 3 series cab/coupes stayed on the old platform after a new saloon came out. If they dont have the new gsa on launch they could well keep the air cooled variant going, especially if sales are still strong and the engine remains compliant with latest emission regs. All guesswork though like you say?

Resale wise personally i dont think ducati will be any better over the next three years, possibly worse especially if the mileage is over 10k.

That's interesting about the Peugeots, seems strange. Was it definitely a case that they were both being produced or just a case of a back log of 206's?
As you say, the rest are variants rather than same models, and as I said I can see the old GSA running alongside the new GS for a while, but not 2 GS's (1200 & 1250) running alongside each other.
As for the 3 series BMW typically it takes a couple of years or so for the M3 to be produced in the latest model and so continues to run in the old guise. Take the E46 for example, the 3-series stopped in 2005 (I believe) but the M3 E46 ran until 2007. The new 3-series has just been launched (the F30) but the F30 M3 isn't due until 2014. But they don't run 2 3-series together and they don't run 2 M3's together :thumb2
