Has anyone actually bought and taken delivery of a basic watercooled gsa ie not a te or xe specced bike.
A couple of dealers haven't actually seen one and I want to know if the basic has an onboard computer, it is listed as having a flat info screen and I can't find out what functions it gives in comparison with my 2011 gsa which has average speed, fuel consumption, range and temp.
Will it mean to get these functions you have to buy a te or xe

The Basic vanilla GS WC does have average MPG, fuel range, external temp etc pretty much like the OBC function of the old hex heads. assume the GSA will be the same.

I have got one. bought it last March, it does have average speed fuel consumption, range and temp.

Sorry I mean I have a standard GS not the GSA but as has been said the GSA is probably the same.

mmm interesting dealers say it isn't on the basic gsa, either a fib or lack of info, no doubt non of the launch bikes or demos will be less than te spec

Neil, I'm interested in a basic model too. I was looking on the BMW motorrad UK site and the following is an extract from the "overview" tab on the new GSA

"30 litres in the fuel tank combined with the engine's optimised fuel efficiency really make you "unstoppable" on and off the road; making unwanted fuel stops a thing of the past. In addition the standard level of equipment now includes an on-board computer. This enables perfect navigation and provides the rider with useful data such as fuel level, speed and fuel consumption."

Don't know if this helps your query. Please let us know what else you can find out about the basic model.

Cheers

Rang a couple of more dealers this morning and none of them have seen a basic or taken any orders for one, probably none in the country

I had originally ordered a 'Basic' GSA 2014. I added ESA, sat nav prep and heated grips. Delivery date was set for early May. Having tested a TE model before the launch I changed to a XE model and took delivery on the 18th. So my belief is that the 'Basic' may have been built to order.

I never had a problem selling either my basic 1200GS or basic 1200GS twin-cam.

Limited market though:D..................................we all want TOYS and Gadgets on our bikes in 21st century

Basic is boring and drab.................bit like an old 1150GSA, old hat and not 'happening' in 2014

You need da bling, maan

Not everyone - the more discerning rider has no need for gadgets, modes and shit - I only had ABS on the latest bike because I had no choice.

You don't need to persuade me, brother.....................i'm right there with you, all the way

However, my good fella you're swimming against the BMW Marketing tide of hype.................they create the desire, the need and the want

Everyone (well 95%) want da bling, the buttons and the toys, the ESA/ABS/TCS/TPS/DYNA-ROAD-RAIN-Enduro Pro/LED/DRL/ASC/GearShift Pro ASSIST/Integral SatNav5 (4 is shit now).....................and without that you're nobody and your bike is SHITE

So (sucking teeth) your bike is of little interest to 95% of BMW second hand bike buyers in 2015

True there will be limited demand but as there aren't many basic bikes out there I don't think it would be a major problem. Might be a different with a GSA though as they are a bling version of the bike to begin with.

If you don't want the bells and whistles might be a safer bet to get the non-GSA version.

I don't, it's not and I don't :)

Neil I test rode a basic bike today at cannons it had most of the info your looking for except tyre pressure info it Def had Ave speed, mpg and eng temp, it didn't have led indicators and light and couldn't find rider modes on suspension other than that it was the same as my te spec G'S hope this helps.

For me Bikes are simple things giving simple pleasures. The most important thing is the way the ride makes you feel.Being able to light Blackpool fuckin illumiations from handlbars is some way down my list. Now a gadget to vapourise some of the cnuts who get in my way would be worth paying money for.:D

Stick with it Neil. Less electric shite to go wrong and there must be many that will worry about all the gadgets and potential problems a few years down the line when you come to move it on.
