Basic r1200gsa

my tc gsa is basic but with panniers, fogs and heated grips exactly as I wanted it, mind you the suspension was too basic and cheap so I fitted Maxton ...... result it is bloody brilliant.

A new gsa lc will be a keeper as it is my retirement present to me, my worry is that 5 to 10 years down the line and well out of warranty there are too many electronics on the xe and te to go tits up and be very expensive to fix

I'm not in a position to buy a WC at the moment so will stick with my old 1100. However if I ever find myself in the position to buy a second hand WC, it would be the GSA as it fits my large frame nicely and I like the big tank range. I would search for a basic version in an effort to keep running costs down as electrical gremlins equal big bills. I think lots of folk buy their bikes on PCP type deals and will upgrade them on that deal before the warranty expires and so don't worry about the shelf life of gadgets. I would honestly expect the basic version to be more popular as a used buy.

Well I took a good look at a parked gs lc and the rear shock looks to be the same fittings as my 2011gsa, the parts diagrams show the new gs front to be different to the older model ie the newer one has an eye fitting top and bottom.
It has got me thinking that I will be better off buying the basic and put Maxton suspension on it , I might speak to them this week as I reckon the rear shock off my 2011 with a service and perhaps a slightly different spring will go straight on a gsa lc and combined wth either a new front Maxton unit or possibly my front one reworked will cost only 4 or 5 hundred.
Cheaper than a xe or te and less stored up problems in he future
