Basingstoke Byways - The Harrow Way

Quickly nipped to one of my favourite lanes down by Five Lanes End, Start at Ragmore (683501)

Gets a bid boggy in the wet, but there is a chicken run for the heavier bikes. The 4x4's really churn this bit up.

I take the lane that ends in Greywell (White Lane).
I chatted to a bloke walking his dog here and he says every year the farmer opens up one of his fields for a day for the locals to go Motocrossing (just before he ploughs it for the winter). I will let you know if I find anything more about this... :thumb

This trail over the Basingstoke Canal is labelled as a no-through-road, perhaps to low slung sports cars but not to normal traffic. (705520)

The Basingstoke canal hasn't had navigation traffic for a good few years, the greywell tunnel (just 100yds from the picture) has caved in now and is now a bat haven.

The byway finishes just as the trail crosses the M3 (710525).

That muddy bit with the chicken run? I took it, my mate (with ~130 miles on his 800gs) didn't. I think my TKC's would have just about got through - those trailwings (I think) stood no chance :) This was last weekend so may have dried up a bit, well before today's rain.....

cheers

I am going to do this trail tomorrow (Wedsnesday 28th) evening with a few guys from SAM, so a mixture of bikes (GS & pogos). If anyone else wants to come - more the merrier. I suggest meeting at the layby on the A339 just outside Blazinsmoke heading towards Newbury (the one with the burger caravan) at 18:00?

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=basingstoke&countryCode=GB&mapType=&overview=&moveMap=-200,-200
{Ignore the red circle - I don't know how to add a meeting point to multimap!)

Let me know if ur coming and we'll wait!

things to do on a soggy evening in Basingstoke

Last Wed evening Mike (Dolly Rocket) on his 400 Suzy and meself on the GS went around some of Mike's "after work" run.

Here's some clips. S'cuse the quality, it's only a wee cheap camcorder and I've never done any editing before.

Back in the King & Queen at Hamble drinking a pint of London Pride by 9.00, smashin evening, thanks Mike
