As for meaningless I suspect that a lot of the families feel that way.

As someone in the service at the time I can tell you there where a lot worse comments flying around at the time and even worse when they came home. Black humour is part of all the services and a way of coping with missing or departed comrades.

Both John Peters(shown) and John Nicol have gone on to very good careers off the back of their experiences. This says to me that they have recovered well from what was a horrifying and life changing time of their lives


Men to be respected? Yes but not men without a sense of humour. In the unlikely event of them reading this thread I'm sure it would raise a smile.
