Batery living forever!

I purchased my 1150 twin spark, brand new, back in 2003. I still have the OEM batery with no problems at all! Shall I change it just in case, or should I wait until the first signs of fatique? I believe that 5 years is a good lifespan...

April '02 1150 still has the original battery which is still holding it's charge, but just leaking acid whilst I await the new battery

Changed my original April '01 1150 battery this year after 7 years.

May 02 on an 1150, it does cross my mind about replacing as I am off to France in August, what's the given wisdom on such things, leave well alone or change you've had your moniesworth tightwad. I have a Triumph 955i with an alarm & it eats batteries almost annually.

If it works;leave well alone.
As you say,change it at first signs of fatigue.ie ABS failing to set at startup.
My original battery lasted over 6 years.

My Jan 02 1150 began to turn over slowly first thing in the winter, so I decided to play safe and bought a Hawker. Just insurance really as the original was still not totally knackered!

I sold my Harley Road King last year to buy my GS and it's battery was the original from 1999. I changed it just before the sale so it lasted 8 years.
Long periods of inactivity are no good for them so if you use your bikes regularly the batteries in theory at least should last longer.
If yours is still good why change it

Replaced my battery after six years.

The bike did start, but the clock went every time to 0:00.

Do you mean it could reach Monty Python proportions as in, I have a battery that came of a second world war machine gun sidecar outfit, signed by Hitler & still going strong.
