Westco AGM batts... we have them in three bikes now...
seem to be the best bet in the US anyway...
...our dealer recommends them instead of the BMW part in most cases, as far as I know, as do our two indie mechanic friends.

Read thid thread last night, thought my own battery was doing well at sevenyears old and no problems. Today decided to take it out for a run and it wouldn't start, turned over OK but soon drained, clock reset to 0:00. I use it regularly as well as an optimate. The only thing I've done since last using it is to connect a set of Giali heated overgrips to the battery. Maybe disconnecting the battery whilst adding them finished it off. Anyway will give the WestCo battery a try, I seem to be having a bad run with electrical items just now. Ho hum

I hate to say it, but at seven years of age, I don't think that battery owes you ANYTHING...even here in southern california where it rarely gets cold enough to turn the oil into molassas, it is unlikely for a battery to last that long on an electric-start bike.

Tonights entertainment......

After ordering a new battery (£70 inc p&p), spending ages on the garage floor trying to check out and clean up the sidestand switch and generally getting a bit stressed, I lifted the tank. This was done to retrace my steps as to what I'd done in fitting the connectors for the overgrips. I then noticed a set of wires leading into a connector, and another connector that was fixed and looked like they might be compatible..............they were, turned the ignition on and there was life. I must have disconnected then somehow when trying to re-position the tank last night. Why can't simple tasks go straightforwardly. Doh!

After charging up the old battery, it seems fine, but maybe it's not holding charge so well these days, so I'll put the new one in when I get it, perhaps.
