Battery 07 GSA

07/07 GSA. Bike kept covered outside, plugged into Optimate III when not being ridden and now the charger occassionally shows the 'Weak' light. Not consistent but it has happened three or four times over the last week.

Will check the terminals etc tomorrow, but they were tightened and greased a couple of months ago.

I can't believe that a nine-month old battery is jiggered already!

If so they can blasted well change it at the next service.

Any similar experience?

Could be the optimate. Search for threads as there is one dealing with the reference voltage setting that can drift. I adjusted mine and all is well. Three year old battery now and still going strong.

If you've got the pre-installed harness and its getting on a bit, you can get bad connections. If this is the case, try connecting with the crocodile clips and see if you get the same result.

Thanks Andy, I'll give my pots a twiddle. Did you do the voltage measuring stuff or just mark them, twiddle and reset? My charger is about 6 years old so it could be that.

Will try checking the connections as the charger is inside and the cable goes out to the bike. It's got an extension and is plugged into a Powerlet socket - wired via a fuse to the battery (doesn't work through the CanBus).

If it is the battery I might just take a BumW warranty replacement then go for an Odyssey - I can't do with a £10k bike that won't start.

Yep I measured the voltages and have had no problems since.

I seem to have fixed it by cleaning up the two in-line connectors (I have an extension lead in the line), pinching the female parts to tighten them up (if only it were that simple ), giving them a coat of ACF 50 and then re-protecting them with self-amalgamating tape. Green lights all the way since then.

My second line of attack will be to twiddle the pots if it happens again.
