Just wondering. My brothers v85 tt battery has refused to start the bike after a few months of non use. Is it possible to save it? Or replace? JJH

disconnect it from the bike and try to recover it with an Optimate or similar

the charger will not enter recovery mode if the battery is connected to the bike due to the voltage spikes needed

if the battery is very low and the charger does not start, try connecting another battery in parallel until the charger gets going

Has it been on an optimate?
Has he tried charging the battery?
No yes with no luck. He’s going to bring battery to mine and I’ll try it on my better charger. I’d rather replace it if it’s only going to pretend to be able to hold a charge and let him down in a week or 2. Thanks. JJH

That’s the next step. JJH

Best junk it imho then.
He will never trust it ever again.

Don’t think a new battery is much over £60 delivered?!

I would probably take this option, especially if the battery has some age. Replacements range from £25 to just under £60 for a 200 CCA Varta at Tayna

Yes thanks. Options are not as good here in Ireland. Price isn’t really a stumbling point. Probably go lithium if replacing. I was really just wondering if the AGM type of battery is problematic in this situation. Thanks for the responses. JJH

3.5kg lighter but at least double the price - not sure I am ready to adopt lithium yet ...

Yes but a lead acid battery actually loses charge while just sitting there discharging to nothing not even connected. JJH

But very much slower.
