So I have a brand new CTEK XS800 battery charger which has an adapter for permanent connection to the battery allowing me to easily plug in or take off the charger when the bike stands in the garage. So the question is. Is this charger compatible with the CANBUS system on the bike or do I need to remove the battery from the bike to charge it and avoid damaging the electrics on the bike?

Got one of those chargers myself :) IIWY I'd use the supplied CTEK battery connector and then use that.

From what I know the XS800 won't desulphate and cause canbus problems. But, it doesn't give out a large charging current so best keep on using it as a fit and forget till the next time you ride. Also, it doesn't push out loads of current when in pulse mode, so the orange light will come on occasionally.

Just in case you don't have this, here's a usefull link: http://www.ctek.com/Manuals/XS800_EN.pdf

thnx John. I have the CTEK connector so I'll plumb it in

Your bike is an 1150 and your in the 1200 section. The 1200 keeps it's ECU powered at all times with a small residual current. This requires the battery to be charged if the bike is to be left for four weeks or longer; so as not to destroy the battery. Please don't tell me how superior the 1150 is because of this. :aidan
