Getting my first GS on saturday, do they suffer with battery/charging issues? (It's an 03 1150)
Cheers
Steve

Just bought a new battery :( But there again, the first owner only did 3,700 miles in 2 1/2 years, so I suspect, (know), that (a) he didn't use it much!!!!! and (b) he didn't use an Optimate or similar charger when he wasn't using the bike.

Supose it all depends on how often you use it and if it has an alarm, got an optimate plugged into mine just in case and I use it every day.

If your bikes left in a garage with power then for £35 it's worth getting one.

It's no hardship to use with a bmw plug fitted, and for the peace of mind, knowing your batteries going to be ok when you go to your bike it's worth it.

If you ever find your battery flat when you need to use it you'll regret not buying one.

:)

Is there an easier way of charging with an optimate other than the croc clips? Is there an adaptor that uses the BMW plugs?

£3.50

For about £3.50 buy a bmw plug, chop the croc clips off, attach the cables to the plug and that's it. No more worries about short circuits.

My Optimate came with crocodile clips AND a block connector which is bolted to the battery terminals. Simply just plug it in! :beerjug:

Fused

Is the lead fused? They weren't when I bought mine.

Which produces nice smells when something shorts out the plastic connectors leads. Smells from the burning plastic insulation and trousers. At least I avoided the trouser problems as the cable melted shortly after the insulation:eek:

At least the bikes accessory plug has some sort of fuse in it (11xx) / overcurrent detector (1200).
