Just bought a new battery But there again, the first owner only did 3,700 miles in 2 1/2 years, so I suspect, (know), that (a) he didn't use it much!!!!! and (b) he didn't use an Optimate or similar charger when he wasn't using the bike.
If your bikes left in a garage with power then for £35 it's worth getting one.
It's no hardship to use with a bmw plug fitted, and for the peace of mind, knowing your batteries going to be ok when you go to your bike it's worth it.
If you ever find your battery flat when you need to use it you'll regret not buying one.
I got a BMW adaptor from Mill which has a block connector which plugs directly into the Optimate lead. About £7 if I recall. Charging couldn't be easier
Is the lead fused? They weren't when I bought mine.
Which produces nice smells when something shorts out the plastic connectors leads. Smells from the burning plastic insulation and trousers. At least I avoided the trouser problems as the cable melted shortly after the insulation
At least the bikes accessory plug has some sort of fuse in it (11xx) / overcurrent detector (1200).
