Can anyone help me please?

Bike battery went flat on me on Sunday and when removing the cover to get to the battery I dislodged the rubber grommet that holds the cover partly in place :blast

It must have bounced and gone to Infinity and Beyond as I'll be Bugg*rd if I can find it.

Can we get these grommets anywhere, if so where and how much?

Or has anyone come up with a tidy alternative way of overcoming this crappy securing method?

Thanks in advance :thumby:

Look in those little blister packs in the automotive section of The Range or in Halfords....maybe even Screwfix or Toolstation.

What size and shape is it?

I might have some in my garage, and could send you a few.

Wait 6 months... guarantee it will turn up in the most unlikely place... OR, your local dealer. If you go in to your dealer, they may well give you one FOC... has happened to me with a missing bolt.

Grommets

These grommets are cheap. I lost one the first day I had the bike after fitting the battery tender lead.

Part number: 61138532186 is about £1.50 each - (FRA32186 £1.91 from Motorworks)

I've found that Part no: 46638532168 (FAA32168 from motor works £1.66) is better, it doesn't fit the same but it stays on the peg rather than in the hole. does the same job. You may find that the postage from Motorworks is more than the grommet. you may be better just getting it at your local BMW dealer. think a car dealer would get it too.

They are a sh*t design and always fall out, lost one the other day, buy a pack of cheap blanking grommets the correct size and punch a small hole in the middle .
They are a better fit and do not randomly drop out

I used a squishy earplug....pushed a nail through it lengthways and stretched it over the plastic pin on the cover. Result.

I'm part of the large group of owners that have lost the grommet.

The grommets do indeed come cheap from the dealer. In case of yours truly, my dealer gave them to me. I went to get one, and he returned with 3, saying ' Here you go, now you don't have to worry next time'. (Actually I've translated :aidan).

Anyway, I've secured the grommet with a tiny nylon strap and lubricated it. So I still have two unused grommets laying around somewhere....:beerjug:

Ive lost mine also and my mate is same, keep meaning to try grommets that you use for electrical back boxes as Ive a box of these in garage, will check it out

As above get an assorted set off ebay for as little as 4.99 as you'll no doubt loose more in the future. Do you just pull the cover off towards you? If so try doing this instead as the pin that goes through the grommet is shaped. Undo the torx screw and remove it. Without pulling the cover towards you pivot in on the pin that goes through the grommet so the rear most part of the panel goes up towards the seat, then pull the cover towards you. Lubricate the pin with either copper grease or silicone before putting it back. Job done

Superglued mine in place.
Everytime i lost one it was found behind the starter motor and had to fish it out with a long piece of wire.

Found......

I lost mine after changing the battery, bought a new one from the dealers and happened to be wearing a head torch when fitting the new one (after the bike had been run for a few days) and I noticed that the old grommet was sitting on top of the engine casing just an inch or so behind and below where it normally fits. Might be worth checking?!
