Battery experiences please

There is a comparison test on the Motobatt site which compares the Motobatt--16-- battery with the Oddessy 680 (and others) and it is just about comparable, apart from only having around 275 CCA, which is actually 25 more than Motobatt claim for it.

From the test it would seem a MB -- 16-- would have plenty to spare and something smaller would do, but there isnt a big difference in the price between the 14 and the 16, and having a bit spare power in a battery is a nice feeling.

Just a heads-up in case this is useful to anyone else...

I vbery nearly didn't buy the MB-TX20U (Motobatt) because the specs on the Motobatt suggest it'll be a really tight squeeze in the BM batery tray, possibly even requiring modification.

In fact it's way smaller than they state (I did check they'd sent the right one...:D) so be careful if you're making a Motobatt selection based on size.

Car charger

In case this is of use to anyone, I've tried to charge a new Motobatt that arrived for my 1200GSA at 12v and after a few hours on the Optimate then leaving it overnight it only had 12.2V so phoned the supplier thinking I had a duffer but was told to use a car charger as the Optimate is not man enough for a gel/mat battery. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the note regarding the car charger, that's interesting.

As a follow-up, the Motobatt MB-TX20U is performing very well so far.

My bike needs a good service and the starter's clearly overdue for a good strip and clean, but the Motobatt cranks it over easily. We'll see how it lasts.

The other bonus, as noted above, is the quite considerable extra space it has liberated for a decent sized sandwich box of fuses, tape, torch, tools etc. Really useful :thumb
