Well it had to happen sooner or later.
A few nights ago I got on the bike (R1200GS 09) at work, and started up with no problems. I thought that I would do a fuel stop on the way to my digs approx 8 miles from work. When I tried to start after refuelling all I got was the dreaded clunk of the solenoid and everything went out.
As I'm away from home I had no tools or test equipment but I was pretty sure it was the battery. I have breakdown cover with my insurance so I called them.
The phone was answered very quickly and all my details were checked. I was told that a recovery vehicle would be with me within 60 minutes and if there was any further problems to let them know.
Sure enough the recovery guy turned up in 55 minutes but couldn't get the bike started because he was geared for car breakdowns. He asked me where I would like to be recovered to. As I was in Dorset I asked to be taken to CW Motorcycles in Dorchester, but I was a bit concerned about leaving the bike outside the dealers until the morning. He rang his office who in turn contacted my breakdown people and they authorised a recovery to my digs and then a further recovery in the morning to CW Motorcycles.
The whole thing went exactly as they said it would and my bike was at the dealers by 10.30 the next morning.
I was very impressed with everyone I dealt with which were:
Carole Nash Insurance and breakdown.
Ravenscroft Motor Co LTD. (The recovery guys)
CW Motorcycles.
I wanted to write this thread to say thanks to all of them and to recommend them to everyone on here. I don't think that I could have had better service.
Rich.
BTW it was the battery. (original fit)
