Can any one give me some help on selecting a new battery for my R1150GS? In Australia there seems to a very limited range, the Yuasa for $90, the Varta Motor Cycle Standard for $120 and a Varta Motor Cycle LF for $225. The LF looks like it is a totally sealed unit.

Does any one have any experience with these batteries and is the LF worth the extra cost?

Thanks

Can you get the Hawker Odyssey battery in Oz?

According to this site http://www.odysseyfactory.com/queensland.htm they have distributors in Queensland. You want the PC680 (if your bike is non ABS then you remove the spacer in the battery box). They cost about 70UKP over here ($175). According to that fitment chart it fits Suzuki quads so give your local Suzuki dealer a ring to see what they can offer.

I fitted a PC680 to my 1150 in 2004. Very good: much better cranking power and, probably irrelevant to you, it does not discharge in winter anything like a wet battery.

I picked up a Kung Long battery from eBay, recently. (SEE HERE)

I was very dubious about such a cheap gel battery being a 22ah one, so I did some checking around & found that Kung Long are the largest battery manufacturer in Taiwan so they should know a thing or two. The cranking power of a PC680 Hawker is....... funnily enough, 680amps for 5secs & 220amps for 30secs but the battery is only 14-16ah rated. The Kung Long is capable of 880amps for 5secs & 440amps for 30secs. The effect is that the bike starts very easily & the ABS sets without problem, every time.

I'm impressed..... :thumb
