Anyone got an idea how I can get my front seat to come off?

My battery has run flat and the seat won't budge on the L/H side. R/H comes up an inch but I can't get any further...

Back seat comes off easily enough and I think the key is opening the front - but there's no way to check. I can only think one of the retaining bars has come loose or is jammed in the wrong position.

Any ideas?

Have you tried pressing down hard on the back of the front seat as you turn the key towards the front of the bike?

hold the key forward with slight pressure and thump firmley the back of the front seat, key will then click forward a bit more and seat will release:thumb2

Thanks guys, tried that - plus giving it a good talking-to and shaking it to within an inch of its life. Diddley squat.

I lifted the L/H side a good bit but not enough to do more than make my fingers very sore when I forced them inside!

when I first got my bike the seat would not come off, I perservered and turned the key towards the front of the bike and bashed the living daylights out of the rear of the front seat, it came loose eventually, a bit of lube and its been fine since.

Brut force is what it needs.

take the back seat off first (turn key towards back seat), then turn key to the front and press hard on the back of the seat. Its been said above already, but that is the correct method, works on my bike.

Rather than punching 10 shades out of it just sit on it and turn the key with your left hand.

Try someone else...or indeed yourself sitting on the very back of the seat whilst turning the key..........worked for me :)

I had some issues getting the front seat off once, would not budge. When eventually freed, found the spare lead on the autocom unit I had under seat was interfering with the release mechanism for the front seat :augie :augie.

Ah, AutoGS, as Rabbie Burns once said so memorably:
O wad some Power the giftie gie us.
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae monie a blunder free us, An' foolish notion...

However, twasn't me who replaced the seat badly... but my good BMW shop. Or perhaps the rubber strap thingy holding the bar in place broke after they replaced the seat...

Anyway: I/we (wife) rolled the bike down to a back-street BMW dealer (older models only) and he got it all opened up while I was at work, drilled a couple of holes to lockwire the bar in place and charged the battery. All in: 25 euros.

Weather forecast: sunny. Smile: wide.

Updated my profile after posting - it's only taken three years. Now in nice Nice, sunny.

Thanks for the tips!
