2004 BMW R1200 GS (17,000 miles) connected to an Optimate.

Recently it has gone from two green lights to a green and a red after a couple of days. I have cleaned the connectors (it is attached to the battery by a flying lead) and even swapped the Optimate with the one connected to my old car.
Same issue - two or three days on two greens followed by a green and a red (right hand side). Time for a new battery or am I missing something?

Try connecting it using the crocodile clip connector you get with the Optimate. I had a similar fault shown on mine and it turned out to be the permenantly wired connector pins were worn through use :D

I fitted a new connector and it now charges fine :thumb

Just done that! The sage of E1 (Wapping) suggested that as well, thanks :thumb2

Seems to be a common issue - connect with the crocs, if it works ok, get a new loom. You can get waterproof connectors now.

Just what goes on inside an Optimate seems to be a bit of a mystery. (see my post "Help Won,t Start"). At this very moment I have two greens which is supposed to indicate a charged Battery in good health but I know for sure that if I try to start the Engine all I will get is a clunk from the Solenoid and nothing else. (I tried it twice last night). And the result is the same on both of my Optimates, an Optimate 3 and a Optimate 3SP. In over 40 years and umpteen bikes I can honestly say Iv,e never had so many failures as with this piece of Germanic Junk. But it,s such a blinding ride !!.

Sorry about that last bit, on reflection I really do love my GS, but don,t they just p**s you off at times.

This morning - one green, one red

Bike started with the first push of the button on Saturday ......

Not taken the plastic cover off the starter motor and checked the wiring connections for corrosion then ???

Do the Germans make the Optimate :mmmm

Back on thread, given that the bike seems to start ok, thought about trying a different charger to see what it does?
