First start of the day, almost 100% of the time gives an ABS fault. I can turn it off, within minutes, re start it, and then no fault.
The battery was a new Oddysey about July last year, but there was a wiring issue, in August, where it shorted under the clocks and melted an amount of it's wiring. This was sorted, but it seems to have this issue since. Battery charges at over 14 volts when running, and after a run the battery voltage is about 13.2.
I've not measured the voltage drop yet on starting, what would I expect to see ?
Also, is it possible that the wiring issue has "upset" the battery somehow and so it's not supplying enough "juice" on start up ?
I tried it with a small booster pack and there was no ABS on start up then.
I'm happy to buy another another battery if required, but don't really want to buy one then find I have the same issue.

(Should add it has a brand new Valeo starter fitted a month or so back)
Cheers

Which ABS, servo?

The general advice is if it drops under 10v under load it's gone but haven't checked it for myself. All your symptoms point to a weak battery regardless of how it happened. I've had them myself many times on the GS. Checking the voltage under load would probably be a good next step.

It's a non servo ABS and it drops to about 9.6 volts cranking when cold...

I had this on one of my 1100 GS. I thought I’d solved the wiring issue but eventually a voltage drop on load measurement and smoke under the tank proved I was wrong. It may be that the battery is goosed, or you may still be getting a shorting load somewhere during start-up. Simplest explanation is probly the former.

I’m no expert but I’d say fairly certainly the battery, especially as it’s okay when its been running for a little while.

Thanks Guys. I'm definitely leaning towards it being the battery. Tried again with a small booster pack this morning, and no ABS fault.
Appreciate all the help

May I ask by "under load" do you mean whilst cranking the starter motor, or just in general whilst the engine is running and lights are on etc?

Whilst cranking the Starter motor, I was assuming

Worth checking/servicing the starter motor for dust and debris from the dry clutch

I have come across this quite a few times now

Simple dismantle and clean and lube can work wonders Just be careful of the inner thermoplastic rear shell it can be brittle if you do decided to deep clan around the brushes I normally just blow it clean with the airline rather than risk it but that rar bit is available as a spare

In my case, a brand new starter approx 3 weeks ago (Valeo)
But I'm going to pull the old one in bits to see how it all works and keep as a spare :thumby:
