Just bought a new battery for my Honda CB1 400. This is to replace one that is only 30 months old. This time I did the acid filling bit myself, there was barely enough acid in the SEALED container to cover the plates. But, the battery when fitted to the bike, leans back at about 40 degrees, exposing even more plate to the air.
I am tempted, despite the warning to the contrary to add some distilled water to cover the plates. What's the risk? the battery is going to have a short life anyway as the plates are not submersed in fluid.

-Is the battery top charged?
The level rise a little when the batteri are ''full''.

I think it is better to ad some tap water then not adding anything at all.
But I'm not an expert...

Liv, much as I thought as well. I'm no expert either

What's the temperature in your garden? It's 4,7c down here in the south of England.

It's not that cold now;
-5c right now, and -8c this morning.

I live close to Oslo, and we often got 3 degrees colder here then in Oslo, and a little more snow.
It often rains in Oslo and snow up here at the same time.

Up in the right corner you'll find the temperature at Røros - that is a cold place! Røros is not that far north; it's between Trondheim and Lillehammer. But it's cold because it is far east, far from the fjord.
I promise; I will NOT move to Røros! :eek:

(The link changes every day.)

I'd do the water thing, no question - those plates have to be covered. Or get another sachet of filling fluid from your dealer.

Download the YUASA Technical Manual and refer to the section that discusses Battery Activation for Conventional and YuMicron Types. Page 11, I think.

The above manual is an easy to read battery reference guide. I usually get 8 full years out of my motorcycle batteries with basic care.
