Morning chaps,

right, firstly the bikes a 07 1200 gs with 20054 miles on the clock, used daily for the 30 mile round trip to and from work and everything else as i dont have a car. wirered direct to the battery i have my gerbing heated jacket and my piaa spotlamps

yesterday and today i kept getting intermitant battery warning signs on the dash, you know the red triangle of death with the battery symbol on the lcd screen, but this went after a few mins when out for a run

on the way to work it came on and stayed on and my spots wouldnt come on when i used the switch.
just gone to leave work after a long and shitty night shift and the bike wouldnt start.
dash lit up and did the usual thing and then hit the starter button and .......nothing apart from a faint clicking from under the seat.
turned it off and tried again. got the starter moter to half turn over and then the dreaded clicking again

am i right in thinking that the battery is flat and needs a charge and then replaced?

is it also safe to jump start from a car? never jumped a bike from a car before so dont want to damage the bike.

left the bike at work and will try and sort it out tomorrow at some point.
sorry if its a muppet question, just wanted some input before i start bashing away at it

cheers in advance

jon :(

Morning Jon,
Yep, Thats a failed battery.....in fact I think you have done well to get it to last that long. Mine have failed at about 2 years. Sadly the batteries on the GS are not really big enough.
A recharge will work to get you home. A jump start from a car will be fine (Bike - to car - then bike + to car +) ...my only advice is be very careful riding home if the battery is dead as in my experience the bike will stall very easily and, even after a 45 min run would not turn over again.
Replace the battery as soon as you can.
(Also of course a battery is miles less capable in cold weather)
