Hi all,
I've had my 2000 R1150GS for 3 years it has 64K km on the clock.
The starter had been sticking for a split second after starting and clock resets to zero, so I removed starter and gave it a clean and grease. It was in good condition as expected with such low mileage.
Still sticking, bike starts fine but clock still resetting.

Next check the battery, well its a BMW 19ah labeled 2006, bloody hell thats 9 years old
I assume that it is the battery that its on it's way out.

I understand that Exide make BMW batteries
Does anybody know what Exide model it is?
With that track record I want to get another the same.

Thanks for your input.

Still on the original 2003 Battery, so 9 years is not so bad.

A Motobatt would be my battery of choice - great performance and still a reasonable price:thumb2

Thanks for your responses.

Yes, 9 years and still going but I want to replace it before it leaves me stranded somewhere.

If I can get another the same I will, if not I'll see whats available here in Hobart.

is it the pc680 oddysee bty that fits the 1150 gs, thanks

Yes, but the most popular replacement at the moment seems to be the Motobatt MB51814......it's higher powered and a LOT easier to fit (with the oddysey, you have to fuck about with metal plates to make it fit, but the Motobatt is a direct replacement PLUS it has two of each terminals so you can have a main power side and an accessory side or whatever.)

The Motobatt is also significantly cheaper, probably because their innovative design means they have less variations to supply to fit more models IYSWIM.

The original fit battery was an excellent piece of kit.

My 2003 1150GS was the servo ABS model plus had several accessories such as heated grips, aux spot-lights etc and yet it still had the original battery on it when I sold the bike 10.5 years later and it had never given me the slightest hint that it might be on the way out.

I do have one littleade as I don't have time to ride it very often so I to keep it topped up.

Armed with info supplied I will order one tomorrow.
On top of the list will be an Exide.

Thank you very much all.

FWIW, I would have gone for OEM replacement if the price had been reasonable down here in Dunedin but Motobatt was so much cheaper that I can live with it not lasting as long. Maybe it's different in the land of the devils?

I did a precautionary battery change before our last trip. Like you, I would have gone for OE. My local(ish) independent supplied me an Odyssey for less money. It depends where live sometimes.

Battery opportunity

My battery on my 2002 R1150 GS has finally expired, the second one, so not too bad
I was reading that people recommend the Motoblatt MB5184, however, it is too large for my battery box, ooh er missus
The box in question is 180mm long by 75 wide
Any recomendations - other than a stock one obviously

Cheers

Rich

hi Rich
I tried the motobat, didn't fit either
tried a replacement battery carrier too
same problem so back to standard!

upgrade the battery to a 30 amp hour best thing I did to my bike starts no sweat plenty of power does it but have to modify the battery carrier .
