Hi,

Just after a bit of help / advice, sort of computer related.

I've got a new Battery for my BMW Z4 E89.

Happy to fit it and I have an OBD machine which I can register the change of battery.

What I cant do is 'Code' the new battery.

Local garage says 50 quid will get it done, but chatting to them I don't get a warm feeling about whether they (or the person I talked to), understand the difference between logging a change, and actually coding it to the car.

Anyone have any experience of 'BimmerCode' app.

Or indeed any advice.

I suppose the ideal would be that if someone has BimmerCode app and dongle who is happy to let me use it for a fee.

Thanks in advance.

There are OBD readers that just check for codes & those that have enhanced capabilities, so this video may help?

Should be under Engine Control Unit > Battery Capacity and Type and you can register either a new one with same capacity and chemistry or different.

Thanks for swift replies chaps.

Just out on a job.

Will look when back

Where are you located? I have Bimmercode and can do it but usually folk on here are miles from me.

You only need to code the new battery if it is a different capacity to what is already (registered) in there. Otherwise you only need to register a new battery, which you can do with Bimmertool.

Thanks for that.

That’s the machine I have.

I can register a change but so far not found the coding bit.

It’s like for like but I’m not sure previous one was coded so just covering all bases

Sorry, to be clear, what I indicated is within Bimmercode.

Ah brilliant.

Thanks chaos.

I’ve bought a dongle and downloaded bimmercode.

I appreciate your swift responses.

UKGSER at its best.

it shows you in bimmertool what is registered. i have both the apps for mine.

Thanks.

With my OBD to register and Bimmercode to code I should be cooking on gas hopefully

You'll be fine.

I don't know if E89 Z4s have the same issue, or if it is a widespread issue on more recent BMWs, but if the battery is coded wrongly (wrong capacity) sometimes the dash can flicker apparently. At least I've heard of it happening on the G29 platform and related.

Sounds like what I had.

Not helped by me being a clown and not keeping on top of charge during winter.

I’ve bought an optimate stop start and will fit cable direct to battery stripping ends off and slipping them beside terminal posts.

Dangle extension cable in, job done

I hope ……..

I think they may be a bit small. If not I shall buy the z4 has stupid terminal blocks.

If not a wire well snugged in should work
