Tomorrow four of us are getting a tea time train to Europe and will head in a roughly east then south easterly direction over this week down in to the bottom right hand corner of Germany, loop round Czech Rep cos I want to say I rode there, Austria back into Germany, Konstanz and up through the Black Forest and home.

A smaller group than normal but the punctual and relatively sober (damn) members of our potential selection. We are converts to the Wapping method, we used to stay around Kent and get up at stupid o’clock, we now ride a little further and stay at St Omer and get up at a normal time on day one, it so makes sense. To be fair I worked it out myself one Friday night in Ashford and took comfort from our stalwart’s opinion. I did book the budget Ibis but I’ve changed it to the full strength Ibis, I’ve stayed there before, enjoyed the food and the beers so I’ve swapped it cos I’m windy about arrival time and food etc.

Bikes wise I’m on a K1600 bagger, got it last July and am enjoying it, this will be the longest jaunt on it. We’ve got an R1250GS, a new 2025 Honda NT1100, apparently it’s worth the upgrade from last years version, and a new Tracer GT, the one with the panniers and that. Age wise we range from 56 to 74, a few health issues over the last year, I’m the young ‘un but we’re stoked to get going.

I’m planning to post from the road and in the evening on my phone, that very south east corner of Germany seems like an area that’s not been reported in detail on here as well as Volary, Czech and the lake, might be shit I don’t know, but I will tell you here. I feel like an Essex pioneer innit. I’ve booked all the hotels as that was the majority preference rather than wing it and I paid for my train on Tesco vouchers before the Mrs managed to subscribe to Good Housekeeping for five years, yessssss get in.

Stay tuned, beats a week of work. There won’t be much museum/ culture stuff, just riding, views and chilling, but we’ll be happy with that.

Look forward to the report. I've been to SE Germany and Carinthia but not further east in Austria or Czechia.
St Omer is always a good option. We prefer the blue Ibis as the parking is better, especially if quite a few of you. We like the 3 Caves restaurant a few metres from your red Ibis https://maps.app.goo.gl/UXVKRRdaCjwwuhUg7 - meat cooked over fire so maybe not for veggies

A sweltering filtering test on the bagger down the M25 towards the Dartford bridge, made plenty of room for the others at 90 odd cm wise, nice bit of girth ;)

There had clearly been some disruption on the tunnel today our four tickets were all over the place. But we pulled up to check in with no queues, we made our way through the various stages and got away on time somehow.

As I type from the Ibis six van loads of CRS coppers have come in to stay for the night guns n all, bikes should be okay :D they're now milling about outside. They all look pretty cool. Some have de armed in their rooms might get a side arm for the week ;)

We took the quickest non toll route with the weak sun behind us and it was noticeably cooler than UK, bloody lovely though.

We've ordered food in the hotel and the beers refreshing. Happy days.

A lorry turned up and they unloaded all their suitcases and ammo boxes into the hotel. Highly entertaining.

So we had breakfast with the CRS, decent choice - I had cheese, ham, seedy bread, dates and walnuts. After conversation turned to bowel success as it so often does on these jaunts Barry risked 4 dried prunes and a handful of hazelnuts, just waiting for him to shit himself, no luck yet.

To get to the good bit and make a bit of ground we went non toll fastest route to Bastogne. Forecast was for thundery showers but we got nothing more than a sprinkle. The other three donned all manner of non goretex hi viz, I felt like I was being chased by the Met. But Sod's Law says that if you put it all on it won't rain. Happy days.

Some sort of car rally finish in the square old and new cars, plenty of space for the bikes

Arrived at the Holiday Inn Express Trier. I'm not normally a fan of Calimoto, Pete in our group is so we let him loose with it from Bastogne. It gave us a fantastic route across Luxembourg then into Germany and down the border to Trier. We failed to dodge the rain. Probably rained hard for 10 mins. The many huge wind turbines looked epic against the foreboding, dark grey, stormy sky.

An enjoyable day that hasn't really felt like too much of an effort, ready for a Bitburg.

I'll give some towns on this afternoons ride when I've checked the details.

Left my contact lens solution in St Omer. Fuckity fuck. Gonna do my best to get some
more tonight in town.....

Thanks Wessie went to look but to no avail. Never mind I'll sort it on Monday. Dry tomorrow so not so much of a dilemma.

An enjoyable evening mooching around Trier dumping some photos below. Massive pizza for dinner mit Bitburgers.
