Not strictly biking related..........but I know peeps on here will be helpful
I'm looking for some recommendations of family accommodation for week - 10 days in the area between Munich and Salzburg or further south of this 'line' into Austria for early July. We'll probably fly into Munich and home from there or perhaps somewhere else.
Always good to have a pool available for R 'n R.
Kids (3) aged 19-10
Into scenery/picnics/light walking
No speako the lingo, so we'll have to get by.....
Want to see some WWII stuff, Eagles Nest etc etc
Bicycle hire good
Bike hire good (for me!)
Open to all suggestions/recommendations
One base location probably/ideally and in terms of general location, rural but civilised (my lot like their luxuries !)
This is copy of my earlier post, it's near Berts Garden for eagles nest and Salzburg...great place
Me and my buddy came across this Gasthof by accident last year and were so impressed we're staying for a week in Sept, using it as a base to explore the southern German alps and the East of Austria after coming up through the Cevennes Nat Park and the Dolomites.
Half board ( absolutely TOP food ) really big single rooms, garage...all for €42 a night. They couldn't do enough for us, really friendly family....
If anyone books a night here, just tell 'em the English BMW bikers told you!! I guarantee you will be well looked after!!!!
Don't mention the war "a la Basil" though......local church has lots of SS graves! ................"Sieg Heil"
Beautiful valley. Ski resort in winter, walking, cycling, paragliding in summer. Located about mid-way between Innsbruck & Salzburg. I went on a day trip to Achensee & the Eagle's Nest in Bavaria and another to the Krimml Falls. I went by coach - with your family, a hire car would work out cheaper, probably.
The hotel has had a recent upgrade including a small pool. There is a large pool complex in the next village which would make a good day out. Catch the excellent & cheap bus from outside the hotel or walk along the nature trail. Hotel owner is a character, a bit like Marmite so I quite liked him. Food is okay but limited choice.
