bb power chip advice

I have a 1150 gs single spark, fitted with a quill y piece and t3 silencer and k & n filter, can anybody advise which setting to have the ecu on? on the standard setting (no link wire in the fuse box) when i rev the bike up at times theres black smoke/soot out of the exhaust, or isit best just to fit a full race can on it

My previous 1150 GSA (Twin Spark) had Remus "Y" piece, Revolution can with baffle, K&N Filter, and RT inlet tubes. I intially set it up for the race can setting but it back fired a lot on the over run. I removed the wire and it ran perfectly after that with no backfires. :thumb2
