that after 6 weeks of not riding, my cruise control switchgear no responding to my engagement. Slid a switch into ON position, pushed the paddle forward and nada, no light, let go of the throttle and bike started to decelerate. I forced a paddle few times quite hard and only then it gone in to accelerate mode,( In other words, as if I had a cruise control set at day 60mph and I wanted it to gently get up to 70mph) this lit the light up on the clocks for as long as I held the paddle in that position, once I let it go, I was back in the cruise control "off mode".

Anybody else had this problem?

I recall that the switch was playing up back in the autumn, but dismissed the idea of it being broken for possibly me not applying correct amount of pressure to the switch.

I was near by to the Lind Mottorrad (Formely SBW Motorrad) and popped in with the hope for them to be able to check it out for me but was told that service personnel are due to go home in 15 minutes and it'll take longer to investigate. So I have now booked bike in for the diagnosis for next Saturday.

Any input or suggestions as to what is the problem and what is causing it be welcome

Regards

That's a pain. I normally leave the slider in the ON position all time, and haven't had these issues.

It was in the on position for the last 4-6 months as I use it quite allot to save me getting point on the ticket. But have no idea why this has happened.

The speed increase/decrease toggle has never worked very well on mine. I tend to get to a steady speed then set it to that and don't bother much with the toggle. I had the switchgear changed under warranty a good while back but it's always been a bit hit and miss, and remains so.

I also leave mine switched on all the time and had the same problem you had early part of last year, Rather than wasting my breath complaining to the dealer I thought rightly or wrongly that ide give it a good squirt of wd40 and work the switch back and forth. Hoorah,, all sorted and no ploblems since.

Back in December exactly the same happened to mine. So I squirted with wd40 and then on the next ride all was well. Spoke to dealer next time I was in there and as I have extended warranty, they (bahnstormers) ordered, and over xmas hols fitted new switch gear foc
so sorted. Drank as much coffee and ate copious amounts of biscuits to get my moneys worth out of the warranty haha.

My left hand switch cluster failed today, the info button won't spring back after being pressed - new switch cluster ordered today.

So extended warranty is worth having then?

I'll be washing my GS tomorrow and will give the switches a good squirt of WD-40 before hand. Slide and rock everything back and forth a dozen of times and hopefully everything will be back to normal. Fingers crossed.

My bike that I bought from Bahnstormer came only with 1 years warranty (will expire on March 19th) I've done 10k in s year, worn out (nearly) a set of tyres, due a 24k service probably by end of March, need brake pads on the rear in about 1500-2000 miles and probably 4000 two sets on the front. Corrosion appearing on mating joints of the engine heads/block. Question is do. Do I get all the work done, extend my warranty and keep it or do I go balls out and order myself a spanking new GSA? Triple Black would be nice but they are currently on back order and waiting list that of 10-12 weeks. Or I can get any other colour in 1-2 weeks tops. What would you lot do? I already had my shift assist pro module and a fog lamp replaced under warranty within last 6 months, now engine getting flakey and switches playing up. Been told that warranty claims aren't same on a used bike like you get on a new one.

Will give it a go too. :cheers

Likewise, I get to a say 68mph flick cruise on and with additional push or two set my cruising speed at 70mph.

I am not sure that WD40 is a good idea, it may rot the thin waterproof covers on the internal switch elements. I posted a thread on of the dismantled switches years ago which showed the problem.

Had that a while back too but, however following morning it was fine again, I suspect it is linked. Water ingress perhaps somewhere and thus corrodes contacts etc?

What do you recommend then as an alternative repellent, protection. GT85 or ACF50 (probably to gloopy)

Well it wasn't corrosion in my case, it was water getting into the switch elements causing them to act as if on all the time (the switches only carry a tiny current so a small amount of water is effectively a short). I became convinced that the regular use of WD40 was to blame as the very thin waterproof covers had perished for no obvious reason.

I have no idea if the newer switches use the same elements however but I haven't used WD40 since.

Well, the switches are probably made in a sweatshop in China, BMW will sell you one for £300 ;-)

Already had 2 replacements on warranty :-)

I use a silicone based spray on switches rather than WD40.

I have a can of silicone spray in my shed, I can certainly try and use that instead of WD-40. Thanks for suggesting it.
