Any GSer's out there who can offer any help to someone who had little hair, and now has less?

I have a Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router (F5D8230-4) which, I think, is configured and working correctly (presently with just with the desktop hard wired to it). We've just bought a new Laptop (HP Pavilion dv9000) with integrated Wireless and, I have to admit, I'm completely lost as to how to set it up:confused: .

I have previously used an old laptop at work with a Belkin Pre-N Notebook (PCMIA) Card (F5D8010) and everything worked fine.

The home router is running 64bit WEP security.

Any, and all, help and advice would be much appreciated, either on here, as a P.M. or on [email protected]

Cheers:bounce1 .

Hi dlevet,

I have the same router and also had a pain of a time getting my wifes laptop to communicate properly with the desktop. Our previous laptop was no problem. In the end it was the windows firewall and also the Nortons firewall that was preventing the connection. Try turning everything off to get it working and then start the firewall up and see which bit is doing the blocking - good luck :thumb

HP Wireless LAN Wizard

Oh I just love computer manufacturers! HP have created a 'wizard' to simplify setting up their integrated wireless LAN Card with your wireless network - great so far!
It asks for the make of your router and there are 3 options: D-Link, L@#$%^& (I can't remember), and other - sill all good so far!
I have a Belkin Pre-N router, so select other, only to be told that the Wizard does not support my manufacturer (i.e. anything else other than D-Link and L@#$%^&) - now it's getting bad!
I also don't seem to be able to skip the HP wizard and just use the windows setup facilities!
Am I stuffed and need a different router? or any advice?
Cheers,
Mr. Angry!

Firstly, you don't need the wizard to connect a wifi enabled 'puter to your router. WZC or Windows Zero Configuration tool should enable you to do so.

GoTo Network connections>Wireless network> r.click and select 'properties' then the 'wireless networks' tab then 'view wireless connections. you should then be able to use WZC.

In the event that the router hasn't actually got the wireless facility enabled, you'll need to go into the router setup and enable it :)

I would avoid any product from Belkin - they simply 'badge' cheap stuff from the Far East. It maybe inexpensive, but you often end up paying twice as much in hassle factor.

Well I tried and tried with the Belkin Router and failed so i 'bit the bullet' and bought a new ADSL router ithat incorporates a wireless router as well (made by Marconi) - hey presto I how have a wireless connection on the laptop! Success!
Only problem now is that the coverage is less than the Belkin Pree-N router.
I have a Belkin Wireless coverage extender thingy, but not sure if that well work.
Now I have wireless, but can't 'receive' sat in my favourite chair! (houses here are all brick, concrete and re-bar which doesn't help coverage at all.
