Has anyone had any experiance of the top end Belstaff Jackets. I have a Rukka Jacket but wanted a longer more classic cut jacket for winter riding as I ride all year round and do about 20k a year on two wheels!
I've been offered a Belstaff Long Way Down Jacket and really like the look of it but not interested in the Ewan & Charlie connection, i just like the jacket.
Does anyone out there have a first hand experiance of these jackets as i've read on the forum members views based on something they once read or heard.
If not its another Rukka for me but they are even more pricey and the new ones are getting a bit 'blingy' for me.
Thanks Chaps

Rukka or Belstaff.............

BMW streetGuard 3......half the price of a Rukka.....nuff said.

IMHO the Belstaff stuff was over priced and under engineered

I used to do 20k a year and too wanted a longer, more classic jacket. I ended up with a waxy Belstaff on the basis that it was smart enough to wear to dinner with colleagues/customers. That being said - it's not 100% waterproof so if proper rain was on the way, it was not the jacket to wear and I ended up getting a Streetguard 3 which is the dog danglies!

I personally wouldn't get a Long Way Down jacket for year round riding as it relies on a waterproof liner which translates to a waterlogged outer when it rains... which is heavy, is cold when wet due to the windchill and takes forever to dry... it will also leave a helluva puddle at your desk when you hang it up!

Hope that helps :thumb2

Zips can be a bit of a problem with the SG3, wish I could still a new SG2.

In what respect? Mine has been fine... so far!

The main zip up the front can twist it's teeth, BMW replaced it but did say that I was not the first to have this happen.

Second jack 10k so far and has been ok, did leak once in heavy rain around the arm slots. But that may have been down to me.

I have had a few jackets and a few years ago I go a brand new Belstaff jacket of Ebay.

A few years old but never worn and its been the best jacket I have owned by far, great quality and indestructible it has been on a good few adventure trips in its time and will never be replaced until it disintergrates through old age.

DOnt know the model but i think its and explorer - Its the same one that the true heor of LWR wore on the trip ( Claudio the cameraman )

His was grey and Black whilst mine is all black.

They still show up on ebay for under £ 100 and If I can find another one in my size in the meantime I will get one.

THe old Belstaff jackets are superb but I am not sure about the new ones myself, looks to me like they are living off the old reputation:rolleyes:

Claudio wore a Belstaff Discovery. They're still in production and available from British Motorcycle Gear in San Diego, USA. BMG ship to the UK and offer excellent customer service.

Shame BMW dropped the long version of the Streetguard, called the Tourguard, I 've had one for about five years, maybe more now, and it's excellent. The outer layer is waterproof, so even in very heavy rain you don't get a sodden outer.

The appear on ebay from time to time, a few of the dealers have them still in their stock it seems. This one is second hand though.

The Motoinfinito modular concept in motorcycle clothing offers a complete solution for every climate and every need of the serious biker.

* The internal Jacket is made from windproof softshell material ensuring warmth and comfort. It is also reversible as a stand alone garment, reducing the need to carry clothing in your luggage.
* The mid layer is designed to hold the body armour. Made from high strength nylon & heavy mesh, the mid layer offers strength yet allows high airflow levels. It can be used in the hottest climates yet preserving the protection of the rider. Equipped with pockets and arm adjusters, it performs as a summer motorcycling jacket.
* The outer shell is is a high strength membrane laminated nylon, is windproof & waterproof, and offers high breathability to 6.000 gr.sm/24h with a water pressure resistance of 10,000mm guaranteed.
* The body armour includes shoulder and elbow protection made from D3o molecular technology. The molecular structure is soft and flexible, but upon impact immediately hardens to create a rigid barrier. This allows the armour to be thinner, lighter, and much more comfortable to wear.

I don't know where you shop, but I can find Rukka gear for £450 to £880, whereas the best price I found for a Streetguard 3 jacket is £555. Hardly half the price.

Thanks for all your help guys, will keep looking and do like the tourguard Jacket mentioned and will look out for one.
Cheers Dirtybiker:clap

I have a belstaff and i would not recommend it...
Yes i have a black one and i looks good but does have faults..and for what i paid iam not happy.
Why? zip handle has broke.
Winter liner has stupid little click buttons that always unclip from the sleev:mad:
coller strap is not practical and annoying to strap up otherwise it flaps around
left arm elbow CE protector spit in two.
Sleeves are a pain to get over my gloves and not good with most winter gloves.
THE GOOD... nylon is strong, ventilation, pockets ,waterproof.
My next will be rukka...I cant see a belstaff lasting 5 years..
And if people take the mick out of me i dont care beacause i can ride better than charlie and ewan..
so hope this helps.
