Quite. 99% of the 'adventure' bikes sold will probably never see a gravel track let alone mud or sand.

I agree..... I've just got back from the south of France this morning, and on my 800GS, rode through the Tunnel de Parpillion, down the St Dalmas de something, all gravel, and all good fun.... yet I met a guy on the Ferry on an XC800 who'd been in the same area and never went off-road once????

Taken mine offroad and with the exception of the scary ABS on downhill slippery bits it was fine. Crossed 2 deep fords, jumped a fallen tree all on road tyres. Not something i bought it for but i know i aint going to damage it bumping up the odd curb now

To be honest they are so damned close my favourite would be whatever one I am currently riding, just think the Yamaha is cheaper to run and less likely to go wrong than the GS.

I don't think the Tenere has been around long enough to prove itself yet but it's the only one close to the GS as a true go just about anywhere all rounder.

I've not yet seen, or read about one which has done a big hard trip apart from Nick Sanders Pan American trip.

I don't consider gravel roads are 'off-road' - they are just unsurfaced.

Off road is a lot more than that and somewhere that anything over 400cc wouldn't manage.

Adventure riding is just going somewhere new.

Recently bought one to replace the "troublesome" GS and love it.

too right...it gets dirty enough just using it on the road , let alone getting mud on it ! off road ? i just keep having to pick it up !
