Please could someone recommend the best engine oil for a R1150GS that is approaching 20K milkes.

Thanks

I think that I'd have a look at:

Mobil 1 with SuperSyn V-Twin 20W-50 for Cruisers largely because it is designed for large-displacement air-cooled engines.

The manufacturers choice...........

is usually the best............in the case of BMW air/oil cooled twins I believe it's semi or fully synthetic Castrol oil............a 15 W-50 or near would be most suitable.

About £12 for 5 Litres and it's the dogs... and it's produced about 5 mile down the road from me :D

That would be in the famous Oswestry Oil Fields would it?

I use Castrol GPS semi synthetic 10W40 on both the R1150GS and R80GS. I'm not an engineer so I can't testify as to its beneficial properties, but two different dealers recommended it.

Paul,
I aways used to use Morris' lubricants. But the place near me that sold it stopped, and then I moved. Anywere on/near the A49 that stocks it?

General question.........

At what point should one start to use synthetic or semi-synthetic oil then?

Carl, give Morris's a ring on 01743 232200 and I'm sure they'll tell you where your nearest stoclest is :thumb

Steve, I started using semi-synth after the 12k service... to be honest I can't see any point using fully synth unless you're thinking of skipping service intervels

But when you can buy fully synthetic for less than £15 why not. See previous re Chevron fully synthetic from Costco. (I paid £9.99 + vat for my last can, price has gone up but still cheap).
