best mounting for quest?

Hi,
Does anyone know where I can buy a mount for a Quest1. I have two
orders in for a mount with online suppliers and they both say (after a 3
week wait) that it will be another two or three weeks.I need one much
sooner than that. It might be just bad luck but the ones I'vetried are
saying the same. I am going to be so screwed if I cant get one. I really
need help on this one.

Thanks, Dave.

 :( :nenau

Ordered on tuesday got the whole kit (Ram arm, GA15 cradle and QPAC) on Thursday, happy with it. Just gotta find a place for the power cable (it's too long, but better long than short). :thumb

I hope you win the Lotto. :clap

Fingers crossed. ;) Thank you very much.

:rob Don't buy a TT Quest mount......mine cost me one Quest unit, though TT said it was impossible

Nice looking, over engineered piece of shite that needs serious mods to make it work securely.

Mind you, now I've modded it, it looks way better than plastic bits :D

Dunno bout the TT kit, but have used Garmin's own cradle kit and can back up what RAM man says - it is a piece of sh1t. Fell apart after a week - tiny little contacts broke - now in bin.

Now use the RAM cradle and power supply with RAM arm and it works a treat - vibration free, holds secure, contacts are solid - all in all a top bit of gear.

I've also used the RAM set up for mky Quest 2. Cradle, power lears, audio output all do exactly as I want. Used for around 2,000 miles or so, never had any issues with them. Bought a cheap earphone from local electrical shop, plus one from Maplins, both work well but comfort is dependent upon helmet design. Did this by (a) hacking about the lining in one helmet and (b) buyign a new helmet that had plenty fo room already!

(Only slight issue is the bike intermittently turning off the power to the accessory socket - the one behind your left knee - after less than a minute, as if the CAN-BUS system doesn't recognise that something is plugged in. What seems to work best is turning the Quest on in the cradle BEFORE turning on the ignition. This hasn't been totally foolproof, though. If anyone can explain whay it's doing this and what can be done to avouid it, I'd love to know.)

And you want the cradle on this mount of course ;)

My *own* view is the GA15 cradle with QPAC is a better holding solution than the 010-10610-00 kit. This forum is littered with .. and.. has debated these issues previously. For your 11GS, then look at either RAM-B-149Z-Q1 or a short arm version is RAM-B-149ZA-Q1. This mount has a round base so pick up on the four holes in the Garmin bike bracket part (on the pillars) with the screws/nut they provide.

You seem to be talking in a foriegn tongue, but seriously, I have a SP111 and I need to mount it (not on a BMW) what is the best mount?. I have a Touratech power (cigar lighter) plug at the handlebars, but would prefer a pwered mount.

Any advice would be most welcome
Thanks

Go for the RAM mount

I agree with Streaky and swebb - go for the RAM mount (with short arm). You can use the original Garmin car adaptor device to power the Quest on the bike - the RAM mount for the Quest comes with a tiny torx key that allows you to remove the power cable from the car kit, and to attach it to the RAM mount. Buy an adaptor "BMW-accessory socket to ciggie lighter socket" and you will find that there is just enough cable length for the Garmin speaker/ciggie lighter plug to fit under the seat of the 1200GS and to reach up to the instrument panel LH side. You don't get voice instructions (well, you do but the speaker is literally talking from under your a**se :D ) but the voice instructions are not wholly reliable in any case. You have to look at the magenta route line to be sure.

Have just used my Quest on a 2500mile trip to the Tarn gorges, and it worked very well. Set up the map display to 800 ft (autozoom off), map detail 'best', and just keep an eye on the 'next turn' fields. Several times the actual text instructions (eg '1st exit from roundabout') were wrong, so ignore these and follow the magenta line.

BTW, if you DO use the Garmin speaker/power unit under the saddle of the 1200GS, you will have to do HMarcs mod to increase space under the saddle - basically cut the front rod that sets the saddle height so that it locates only within the lugs either side underneath the saddle. Bodge (or carefully engineer  ) something to hold the two cut ends of the rod in place. By removing the mid section of the rod you free up useful space, and this is needed to accommodate the speaker unit. Wrap the Garmin and adaptor bits in a poly bag with zip ties and... :thumb

I thought I'd try posting my first UKGSer pic showing the Garmin power unit on the 1200GS, and the mod to the seat height adjustment bar
