Best screen.

Just getting used to my new to me GS1200 I’m wondering about screens.

The standard screen is okay’ish when it’s up fully but I find myself having to look through it. Halfway up is tolerable but then the thick top of the screen is right in my eyeline. Set low is fine, a good view ahead but well you get more buffering.

Is there a screen that is low enough for me to be looking over the top of it on a normal riding position yet cut out on buffering to the helmet

Or maybe you’re supposed to be looking through the screen??? Im coming off of many years of sports bikes so sorry if that’s an obvious point.

Am I looking for something that doesn’t exist i.e low yet protective?

I’m about 5ft 9 and the standard seat is set on low.

I assume it’s a GS LC model? If so, the MRA Vario screen is pretty effective if you ride solo. I’m a similar height to you.

My wife prefers the Puig touring screen, but I can only just see over the top.

You may want to try the little sport screen from BMW or there are other small deflector type screens, you’ll have less protection but hopefully won’t get any buffeting

Some folks even ride without a screen in the summer, not much protection but sometimes lots of clean air is better than a bit of turbulent air

I totally agree with this. The best screen for lack of buffeting and lack of noise is the one that leaves your helmet in clean air rather than turbulent air off a screen. My girlfriend just bought a brand new S1000XR with all the bits. When I rode it I could not believe the wind noise. I bought her a smaller screen that is nice and quiet and makes it a decent touring bike.

Try playing around with different angles. I ditched the standard screen on my 21 R1250 GSA TE within minutes of purchase. I'm 6'5" and bought a Puig with attached factory aerofoil. Its good and somewhat surprisingly the lowest screen angle is the best, with the foil all the way up. I get very little buffering, by no means perfect, I came from a K1600 GTL with a CalSci extra tall/wide. That was perfect made more so by the electric adjustment. Shame the GSA doesn't have that IMHO. Many 'purists' would disagree. That said I tend to go very long distances, being beaten about the head for 15 hrs or more is no fun;-). My new to me 1250gs came with the mra one with the aero thingy and it’s brilliant, visor up at 70mph, no buffeting and v little noise. I’m 5.6, seat I low position and I can still see over the top

What is the standard factory aerofoil? Any pics ans can it be purchased on its own as I have the bigger screen already?
