If you want to stay on the road, Michelin Pilot Road are good, very good in the wet and last a while.Had them on a GSA1150.I now have Pilot Road 2 on a Honda and love them.Very good on wet roads.
Me too!
It's the same folk who spend a tenner on a lid that's made of cheese and want a set of tyres to last a life-time! If you get 5k out a set of good grippy tyres great, who cares if you can get 20k out of a set of tyres that feel like your riding on ice. Suppose it depends on how much you value your life. PR3s for me.
I always just ask what is on offer at the time and as long as it is a recognised make I will have them. No point getting 10% more wear if you are paying 20% more for them.
Lately it has been Metzeler Z6 which have been around a while but I have had no problems with them whatsoever. My GS has 17" alloys by the way.
Its not about saving a tenner or so its about grip and handling when part worn. They all go off near the end but change them with 10% "usable" tread or go carefully. Who wants to any tyre that's 50% worn but lost its handling ability.
In my experience stopping ability falls off very little compared to new, but cornering ability can drop off a cliff if the miiddle gets squared off.
Just been out for two hours on my Battlewings (about 1000 miles old). Loads of wet patches and even some small rivers running across the road on some bends. They behaved well - only one small rear-wheel skip which was no problem (mud, I think). I usually get about 6 - 8k on them so they suit me fine. (I did not see another bike on road!!)
