Hello

I'd like to improve the front light on my 1150gs but don't want to shell out a lot of money for it.

Is there a better bulb available or shoudl I be thinking of fitting HIDs?

Cheers

hids

Pay your £12 and you can send him a message quickest way.

pay the subs and get on with it...you will only benefit from it..

I know this will go against the flow with the masses but HIDs aren't the best solution IMHO. I had one on my S and that was OK but on a GS with the light so high up you both give and get so much abuse from cage drivers if you have them adjusted to a decent level. You've either blinding them in their wing mirrors or bouncing the beam on their rear view. If adjusted low then it's nearly as crap as standard.

Personally I find a bright pair of auxillary lights a much better solution. They can spread the light a lot more to the left and right and being lower down don't anyoy/distract the cars so much. They also give a lot more road presence for the bike, especially when filtering.

Putting HID50 Hellas on a (in my case) Migsel lightbar still gives 'ball of fire' visibility but drops the lights a fair bit so they have less chance of dazzling car drivers. Course this is a somewhat expensive option, but by God, the light these things put out...[

Ha! That's amazing.

I somehow think you're kidding yourself though if you think that stadiumesque lighting rig isn't dazzling cars. :D

Never been flashed. :augie The wee round ones are relatively low (they're fog lights which I run all the time) and have a very sharp horizontal cut off so they don't dazzle but realy make the bike stand out on the road. Of course the oval ones are blinding but they are only operated with main beam. The fogs can be switched off at the bar as will the spots when Les gets a new batch of switches in. I reckon there may be problems for 1150/1200 owners who HID their dipped beams in some circumstances (cos of the height as discussed), but boy, anyone who pulled out in front of a bike with those babies on needs his white stick shoving... so maybe worth the odd flash.

BTW, those are 35W HIDs.

Great pictures of the light spread - any chance of same picture with just the fogs and then just the spots.

I have the H4 kit from Les and am considering the Hellas but don't know which to get and your pics are a real help.

Cheers.

Sorry bout the quality- used my phone. Rerckon the fogs + dip is bright, but in real life not dazzling- you can probably see the main light on top of the other two is about the same in the pics in terms of how much dazzle there is. Definitely no worse than a Beemer or a Merc car...

Took pics from roughly car driver level at about 15m. The far wall of the garden is 22m.

Hope this helps.
