Better bulbs or HID

Thanks very much for taking the time and trouble putting these up.

OEM lights - what rubbish in comparison, they should be ashamed of themselves calling them lights!

For me I think the next item on the menu will be the Hella fogs - Les will be pleased...

Sorry bout the quality- used my phone. Rerckon the fogs + dip is bright, but in real life not dazzling- you can probably see the main light on top of the other two is about the same in the pics in terms of how much dazzle there is. Definitely no worse than a Beemer or a Merc car...

Took pics from roughly car driver level at about 15m. The far wall of the garden is 22m.

Well, things have moved on a wee bit since 1997...


I think the important thing here is that the beam of the fogs matches the cut off of the o/e dip as can be seen in the first two pics, although with a wider spread. The spread could be changed if it causes car drivers problems, but in my experience it doesn't and I like the way the nearside verge is lit up better with the Hellas.

Also, having been followed by someone riding my bike I can certainly say that the Hellas are a great aid to (rider and bike) visibility; you can't miss 'em:D.

I set my dip beam a little lower than standard after I fitted the 35 watt HID's. The dealer adjusted it back up on his machine (FOC) when the bike went in for MOT.

The only, repeat ONLY time I get flashed is when I'm a bit tardy knocking the headbeam off. I never get flashed on dip and rarely ride close enough to the back of a car to have the light shine into the vehicle and on those rare occasions when it does it's a low slung sports car and I back off a bit as a courtesy to the driver.

What I do notice, and it is demonstrated admirably by the Three Dawg's pictures, is that the standard settings for the head beam are far too low, barely shining beyond the dip beam cut-off. I used the adjustment screws around the head beam lamp to increase the seperation when I fitted the HID's with the result that you can see far enough to ride as fast as you want after dark. Or as fast as a GS goes at least.:D

The most intense part of the head beam is pretty much overlaying the dip beam which isn't what it's meant to do IMO.

Is it a single twin filament lamp or seperate high and low lamps. If the latter you could try slightly unseating the lamp although with all the fire power you've got it probably doesn't matter much:augie
