Better mileage than ever ?

Missed the boat on this thread a bit..

Remember on the continent, their unleaded is 91 ron, then super at 95 ron and super plus at 98 ron. We have no 91 ron so our unleaded and super unleaded are one grade higher.

I'm sorry Andy, but on an 1150 98RON fuel makes no difference to anything except your wallet. The difference in the mpg was caused by something else.

Greg

I agree that a higher octane on its own will not improve mgp on an 1150. Despite an exciting sounding name high octane doesn't imply more energy in the fuel.
However I blieve the 'ultimate' petrols aren't just the same stuff with a higher octane rating, I think they have other additive too, that might give more mpg.

BP state on their web site:
The increase in power delivered by BP Ultimate Unleaded can be attributed to its higher octane rating, a cleaner engine and reduced engine friction.

Hmm, cleaner engine and reduced friction - dies sound a bit like snake oil doesn't it

My 1200GS certainly seems to get better mileage when running on Optimax (the Shell super unleaded) and when I'm in Europe I run the top one as well. It only accounts for a few extra miles to the tank.:)

When I had a Alfa 156, it was the same, being a bigger tank in a car I saw a bigger increase. I don't know the technical side of the discussion, I just know what I saw.

Doppelganger or just Related?

Are ROZ and RON the same, equivalent, or different altogether?
