are Scotts Performance filters
specifically..... Stainless Steel Micronic Oil Filter part 2151 for F650GS Dakar but I am guessing it will probably (check!!) fit standard GS too (and that belt driven thing as well;)

Don't really see the point as the standard filter is relatively cheap and changing is only a two minute job?
What's the advantage?

A standard filter:
*Is much less efficient at filtrating debris :)
*Cannot be re-used hence non bio-friendly :(
*Need spares to be carried :(
*U R correct- Same changing time

The filtration efficiency of paper vs metal filters is a matter for debate. The metal filers (as far as I have heard) have much larger pores, hence don't filter the really small contaminants from the oil.

To repay the cost of a metal filter plus all the solvent you will use cleaning it over the years, you'd have to buy quite a few paper filters.
 
If the room in your luggage is a big issue, or there are no delaers in that part of Sahara you are living, then it might be useful.

..but I think that is not what this is about...;)

BTW this filter can be cleaned with any detergent and not necessarily with expensive solvents- then U blow it dry.

I don't think this technology is ready to use yet. When the holes get down to 20 microns, and the surface area up to about 100-150 square inches, then I think I'll consider using one. Meanwhile, "good for the life of your vehicle" is not an impressive claim if the device shortens the life of your vehicle. :eek: "

The biggest issue for reusable filters of any kind, is the "clinical" method of cleaning required to prevent one errant particle from moving to "the clean side".....
