Just setting my valve clearances and noticed that there is play in the bevel box, now obviously there should be some otherwise it would not be an articulated joint but I am just wondering how much.

There is no side to side play just a small amount of movement of the bevel box on to the swing arm when you move the wheel up and down, I have tried to search to see how much play there should be but I cant seem to find the right information.

Any help appreciated.

Oh its a R1100GS with about 45k on the clock.

Sounds like the paralever bearings need adjusting to remove any play.

Re-read it.Up/down not side to side.Is the torque arm torqued up OK/no bush wear ?.
Still check the bearings though.

If there is play in the pivot bearings, it would be best at that mileage to remove & inspect them. I would suggest at that if they are the originals, they will need replaced. Straightforward job, but you will probably have to heat the swingarm to get the right hand pivot to move.
Brian.
