Me and my bevelbox again :blast

OK, bearings galore replaced, trying to get it back on, is there some secret technique I'm missing, because the bugger really doesn't want to go. I used two rear wheel bolts to feel for the splines aligning, then wiggled/pushed like mad, but no luck. Before I get a large rubber mallet, is there something I should try?

Thanks

Matt

Is it the 850R? I don't know if they have an indexed spline ( they only go on one way) or not. Have a look and see if it's even all the way around, if it is, just line them up and push them together.

Sorted.

Have you got the final drive bolted to the torque arm, so you can just lift it easily into place. ;)

Yes, did that. I'll check again to see if it's keyed, maybe I missed it as the light was going and everything was slightly over mollied...

Thanks for the replies.

Bike in gear as well.?

I did exactly the same thing. Couldn't get the bloody thing back together for love nor money. Spent two hours bent over it with the air turning increasingly blue. Gave up at 8pm and got pissed.

Got up the following morning and pivoted the bevel around to look at it in daylight. Bingo! Straight in without trying.

Still at it. The books of crap knowledge (Haynes and Clymer) all show the replacement of the bevel box with the universal joint on the bevelbox side, not the swing arm side. On my bike the universal joint is still in the swing arm, is this expected/the way to go?

As far as I can tell where not even getting the tip in (no rude comments!), just poking flat surfaces against each other.

Yours in deep fustration.

This could be your problem.
The driveshaft is in two parts, the rear part which is the short U/J section stays attached to the final drive when you remove the final drive.

They are a sliding fit - You may have a seized drive shaft where the two parts stick together.

Ok, is this a new drive shaft sort of problem, or heat and hit it until it splits and then grease the buggery out of it?

Cheers

Matt

wow, managed to unseize it with heat and hitting :beerjug:

Now trying to get the UJ onto the bevelbox.

Cheers
